Szechwan Restaurant — Restaurant in Orinda

This restaurant has been one of my favorite Chinese restaurant for the past 20 years.. having been out of state for some months..I went back to order my favorite dish. "Szechwan shrimp".. it has a delicate thin batter and deep fried in a hot oil (peanut) which makes it a very fine palate treat..this time however my take out order came as "sweet and sour shrimp". It has a very thick heavy batter, deep fried in a less than desirable oil. When I confronted the order lady of my observation. She claimed that it was my order. Evidently both dishes are prepared and sold as one dish. When asked if it was the same ownerships she claimed that it was. The gentleman who previously took my order(probably the owner) was no longer there. Bad experience..bad food as well as...

We feel grateful and very fortunate to have this wonderful restaurant to come to. A place to sit and relax while enjoying a hot, fresh and always delicious meal with a staff who are unfailingly warm and gracious.

Try the lettuce cups with tofu instead of meat. Tiny cubes of seasoned tofu with crisp, neatly trimmed lettuce leaves- so refreshing. My favorite is Hong Kong style chow mein with crispy and also soft noodles in gravy. Also highly recommend the Kung Po tofu with its peanuts, celery and red bell peppers- such a perfect combination. I had the Kung Pao Fish Fillet dinner special last night, a very delicious dish I hadn't noticed on their menu until last month! We stopped by for lunch on Saturday. Great variety of dishes on the Lunch Menu and nice portions of their delicious food! We have found a new favorite appetizer, the Lettuce Cups! The Basil Fish Fillet is amazing! Large pieces of Snapper Fillets, delicious veggies that come together with the sauce! I ask to have the Chow Fun noodles added, wow!
