My mother's Hokehankist/Requiem - 40th Day is on Sunday, August 10th, so two days ago, my daughter and I decided to visit Safeway in Orinda. Last time, I wasn't feeling well and waited for my daughter in the car while she was shopping. Thank God, this time, I was feeling well, and I went inside the store, which felt so good. It was nice and cool. This is a very popular Safeway, I thought to myself since it was packed. We headed toward the fruit section first since that is what it was recommended to bring for the coffee hour after Church Service this Sunday. The 🍒 cherries were packed in plastic bags already, and we selected a couple of them, We next selected the best of the cantaloupe and the plums. These were for Mother's Requiem. We completed our shopping by getting the bananas for us, in addition to the tomatoes, garlic, and onions, which are a must when cooking. This Safeway is smaller than the El Cerrito Del Norte Safeway, but it seems that lately, we've been in a rush and not having enough time to go in each aisle to check all the goodies. We'll definitely visit again. By the way, we tasted a couple of the cherries when we got home, and they were delicious. We will find out how tasteful the plums and the cantaloupe are once they are cut and presented at the Church's Social Hall on Sunday after the Worship...
Read moreUgh. I only shop here when I have to. What is good about this store? The produce is very good, if too expensive. The store is very clean. However, there are so many things wrong with this store. Prices are too high. Lines are always too long. The slowest checker in the entire store is usually the guy on Express. The bread department is tiny. The Bakery is a shadow of its former self. The Deli ... OMG, do NOT be in a hurry if you go to the freakin' deli. I swear, the folks that make those sandwiches are the slowest people I've ever seen. You have been warned. PRO TIP: If you go in at lunchtime, grab something (anything) out of the cold cases. They have pre-made sandwiches. Downside is that those things have absolutely NO condiments on them, so you're on your own in that regard. They also actually have a sushi case with a real live "sushi chef," credentials unknown, during lunchtime. They stock the case with California Rolls and other basic sushi. I confess that I have tried some of these offerings. The prices are reasonable (for sushi) and the fare...
Read moreMy girlfriend had spent a good portion of her day making me a handmaid thank you card. She had put great effort into it.
Then she left in the parking lot of this Safeway. She just considered it lost.
I called the store, to see if anybody might have found it and turned it in. One of their employees named BRANDON answered the phone, explain the situation and he said he would call me back if you found it.
I hung up the phone, really not expecting a call back. I didn't think you would look that hard, and what were the chances of him finding it.
I got a call back about 40 minutes later, BRANDON found the card in the middle of the night and saved it for me. I am on my way there to pick it up right now. It is 11:13 PM. If this is a kind of pride this meditation is sure the customer service at this store is top...
