It was just me on a Friday night 5/31/24. I came just for the Nabeyaki Udon. Place was nice, good decor and menu variety. Staff was a one man show for everything. Problem is the food. The owners have to understand that they and a new sushi place right next door, an new Indian place, all opened at about the same time. A couple of doors down from them is the Vietnamese restaurant that is really very good!! So, the owners need to up their game with the food. Presentation was good, but I feel that I paid a premium price for an economy version of a dish that I love. The broth/noodles were normal, but the toppings were skimpy! No mushrooms, tofu, most of the stuff that I'd come to expect. Instead, I got tons of low quality, sub par toppings that did not make for a good dish. The massive carrot chips(wavy cut) were thick, hard and basically uncooked. Over two cups of them! The wavy zucchini was bland, and an awful substitute for seaweed was the hard head of lettuce. Not even the green stuff, but the white, nasty hard parts, dumped everywhere. The scallions were way too large. Just a rough chop in half. You'd end up with an entire half in mouth due to no knives or forks served. all of those cheap, way too large pieces of filler veggies made for a big disappointment. The egg yolk was there, raw, but without any egg white?! The onions were good, but the chicken was the worst part!! It is dry, tastes and feels like the chicken you get in a pouch. It doesn't.have the taste of the broth, as it isn't cooked in it, just added to the top. Has a bad feel to it. The tempora shrimp piece is suspiciously small. I believe that the normal size that one would get served has been cut in half length was. The fish cake was wavy cut.like the veggies, but of the thinnest, almost transparent slices. There were only two very thin slices and not even two full pieces. I was interested in other menu items, like you Korean ($25) entries, but I'm not going to spend if I'm feeling short changed. The prices would be fair if the customer got what was normally expected in a dish, but here I definitely got poorly chosen substitutions. I don't think that you will be there in a year if you don't change. This community will travel for good food, and it's nothing to drive to Rochester/Clarkston/Oxford for good restaurants. There are already good Asian foods nearby. You can't skimp on...
Read moreMy wife and I just tried the newly opened Fancy Sushi & Thai, and it was delicious!! I had the chance to talk with the owners, Sam and his wife when I picked up our carry out. They are great people, and it was awesome to hear how it was Sam’s wife’s dream to open a restaurant, and they have finally realized that dream. They moved to Michigan from California, and have a love for food and it shows in their attention to detail. Sam told me about how they use the freshest noodles for their Thai dishes, rather the easier way of using pre packaged or pre-soaked noodles. We cannot wait to try their Thai dishes next!
Here is a picture of what Katie and I got! Katie got a Spicy Tuna roll and the AAC roll, and I got the Spicy California roll and their specialty Coconut roll. All four were delicious! We also got their Crab Wontons (I love crab Rangoon and have only had the four sided folded ones before, this was the first time I had them in this pocket-like form and it’s my new favorite!) and they were so airy and fresh tasting. They also gave us a complimentary order of Spring Rolls (also amazing) which was totally unexpected, and very much appreciated!
We are so excited to have a Sushi and Thai restaurant so close to home now. We will definitely frequent Sam and his wife’s (sorry I wasn’t sure how to spell your name!) new restaurant. Go check it out and let them know what you think! They are working with a company to get their website up and running and new/full menus updated and easy to find.
Great work guys, and congratulations on realizing your dream of opening...
Read moreFood: we had the coconut sushi don't let the prices fool you, it was amazing! Best sushi I've had in years!
Service: the server was very kind and they offered complementary miso soup or ginger salad with our meals.
Atmosphere: When we got there (late lunch ) we were the only ones there and there were only two groups that came in after us. There were photos of food at every table that looked delicious but it seemed to be the same photos at every table (Try putting more variety of the photos around and frame them. They were such good photos it's a shame that they were just taped up). For the food quality and service it should have been PACKED.
Looking forward to making it a regular!...
