The food is fresh and fabulous and is a favorite of ours. Each time we have visited we have been offered a smaller portion, kid bowl for $5. My daughter typically gets the regular size bowl and I opt for the kid's bowl. The portions are perfect. The reason for the less than stellar review is that I just sent my daughter across the street w/ $8 to get her lunch. $5 for the bowl and the rest for a tip. She returns without her lunch because she was told that the kid bowls are for ages 10 and under. I made a call over and was told the same although we have ordered this kid bowl each time we have gone to this restaurant. In fact, we didn't even know it was an option as it's not on the menu. It was offered to us and I was appreciative as the portion is perfect for me. If I had known they would turn my daughter away, I would have sent her with more money and would understand that this is the policy moving forward. (Although this is my first time hearing this and again, I get it...a kid's meal is for kids. She's 15 BUT this was offered to us, not requested by us). The staff member that answered the phone asked me if I would like to speak to a manager and I accepted. Mark was pleasant enough but was insistent that the kid size bowl is for ages 12 and under (Yes, 12, not 10 as previously told to us). Listen, it would have been very easy to make a one-time exception for a teenager that walked over for her lunch w/ $8 based on several past purchases and we would have respected this rule moving forward. Mark did not seem that concerned that she was turned away nor did he offer for her to come back over and get her lunch. For this reason, we will not return to this restaurant. As a business owner, I understand, when it's time to take a hard stance and also when it's time to make an exception, especially given past purchases. Customer service is everything. Kim Jordan
Edited to reply to Mark: Mark, you were pleasant on the phone. The issue is that you were more concerned with the loss you would take on a kid's bowl and that your staff was not properly handling the store rules as opposed to a customer leaving without lunch. As I mentioned, it was not 1 time, nor 1 employee that offered us the kid bowl. It was many times and different employees and not once was it an issue so why would I think any different for today. Again, the kid bowl was brought to our attention as an option. Knowing that we frequented your restaurant and what the charge would be, I sent my daughter over w/ $8 cash. Based upon every, single time we have eaten there, this would have been enough for the bowl and a tip. We always give cash tips to the staff because they are so wonderful. We did not have that experience today. If I were in your shoes, I would have told the customer to send her daughter back over to get her lunch. It's that simple. Your concern appeared to be more about policy than doing right by a...
Read moreEverything about this place is amazing! If you have not been in the actual store and experienced the workers first hand, you won’t be able to experience this amazing place! I have been a few times now and every time i receive nothing but excellent customer service. You’re instantly greeted by some one when you come in. The workers are willing to explain everything about the different menu items. They don’t have a trash can in the place, because they pick up the trash for you. Awesome. They ALWAYS come over and ask in the middle of the meal if everything tastes good. That brings me to the next thing... the food is soooo delicious! The flavors are amazing. The fish ALWAYS tastes so fresh. I’ve eaten at other Poke places and had an unwanted taste left in my mouth. I really enjoy it! Just wished i lived closer. I live about 45 minutes away in West Orlando, but the place is totally worth the drive. Love how they always give a small thing of Dole ice cream at the end. It’s nice to have to cold sweet treat after the meal. Especially when you like your bowl spicy. I would recommend maybe allowing the option to charge the guest $0.50 for the small ice cream. I feel bad taking it for free all the time but i would never eat a big one so i don’t buy it. I enjoy the small ice cream enough at the end that i would be willing to pay $0.50 or so for it. Keep doing what you’re doing! It’s amazing and i...
Read moreSimply delicious!!! I ordered takeout from Uber eats, and Island fin is going to become a regular for me. For those new to poke...think of it as a hybrid of deconstructed sushi roll crossed with chirashi.
Island fin offers lots of customizable toppings served over rice (or spring mix salad if you're restricting carbs). They also serve generous portion sizes--one 3 scoop protein bowl is probably equal to about 5 normal sushi rolls. If you want your sushi fix but don't want to pay through the nose, you can't go wrong with Island Fin poke bowls-- aka: amazing, supersized, deluxe open face sushi you can customize to your heart's content.
The fish was incredibly fresh, all the toppings were delicious, the presentation was great---it still looked beautiful even as takeout, and I devoured it before I remembered to take a picture :) Fabulous meal at a great price, highly recommend!
Edited to add: I've had takeout 2x now, 1st with OG marinade (mildly spicy) and wasabi cream (spicy), 2nd with Island fin fire marinade (slightly more spicy, but a very bitter scent), and togarashi sauce (nearly identical to the spicy mayo used by many sushi places). Both bowls were delicious, but I won't order the fin fire marinade again because the scent was rather...
