After a second stay here, I'm updating my review from 4 stars to 2 as the outstanding location doesn't make up for the poor service. Upon check-in, the HVAC did not work and the electric blinds in the wheelchair accessible room also did not work. Someone came up and said everything was fixed, but this was inaccurate. I reported these issues again the next morning around 11:30am when I returned to the room and was advised someone would be up shortly. I waited for over 2 hours, but nobody showed. In turned out that nobody showed up all day and I sat in a room with no sunlight because the blinds were broken. On Tuesday, I raised these issues again and someone finally came to the room and started working on the issues. Both issues were fixed temporarily, but then stopped working that evening. The gentleman who came to the room said regarding the blinds, "Oh, I know this one has an issue." On Wednesday, I advised I was going to cut my 2 week stay short and then finally the issue with the blinds was fixed. The AC was again looked at, but it continued to work temporarily and then would always go 2 degrees above where it was set or take 5-6 hours to cool off. After 5 nights, I was finally moved to a new room. At $150/night, I feel like issues like this shouldn't happen and when they do they should be resolved in a much more timely manner.
Even after being moved, issues continued with getting timely resolution to issues. One day housekeeping took all of my kitchen supplies (towels, sponge, etc). I called at 4:30pm and explained what happened and was told someone would be right up. Nobody came. The next morning I went to the desk and explained nobody showed up. Again, nobody brought the supplies up. That evening at around 5:30pm the gentleman working finally seemed to understand the situation and got it resolved. However, the next day when housekeeping came they took the towels again without replacing them.
I stayed here for 2 weeks while between houses. In my opinion, the best thing about the hotel is its location, which is excellent. It is next to a number of restaurants and a lively (but super nice) "downtown" area. However, the noise level from this was not noticeable from my room, which was great. The other thing about the location that was great was the proximity to the park, which is only a block away.
With the hotel itself, it has a gym, pool, and offers free breakfast. I found the breakfast to be a little lacking when it came to healthy options (Bananas were gone quickly due to some large groups even when getting there at 7:15am) and variety (eggs, potatoes, and sausage almost every day with the meat changing sometimes).
With my room, it was reasonably spacious, but quite dark even with all of the blinds open and lights on. The staff indicated this was the typical lighting and the lights just don't get very bright. The full kitchen was great although the appliances, while functional, were very dated. While the room itself wasn't necessarily super dated, it did appear that it was a bit on the well worn side in judging the condition of the walls and furniture.
With the staff, I found Mya and a woman who seemed to be the front desk manager, Grette, to be very professional, helpful, and personable. On a different note, I am in a wheelchair and have a service dog who assists me. After 3 days at the hotel, I had a very odd interaction with a Steven who called my personal cell phone one morning and said "We understand that you have a dog in your room." I said "Yes, he's my service dog and he's always with me providing physical assistance. He's always in his vest." He said "Oh okay. He's a service dog. Sorry about that" and that was it. It was pretty odd though as my service dog is always with me and we would wheel/walk past the front desk 4...
Read moreYour hotel and the services provided were fantastic. I am an Army officer and medical doctor who travels a lot, and whose wife has worked at Marriott Corporate Headquarters for over 25 years, so I am no stranger to Marriott properties. I must say that yours was the best experience all around (not just for Residence Inn/Courtyard, but for Marriott properties across the board!) that I have experienced in many years. First off, the property is immaculate, as are the rooms. Terrace/pool area with the fire pit was akin to a high end resort, as were the well maintained exercise room, the bistro, and breakfast area. Breakfast was really great. Attentive staff made sure that everything was constantly stocked (an associate was observing the breakfast area constantly to make sure each serving tray was full, and the area around it was clean and tidy). So nice to have the fresh eggs, meats, etc, and the other fresh items in a clean and appealing set up. The evening social was equally well done. So nice to be able to have a beer and great food after coming in from a day of business, and again, just like the breakfast--everything was so well attended and maintained by your staff.
Front desk staff were great. I didn't get the name of I believe a shorter Hispanic (or Southeast Asian?) young woman working on the Courtyard desk side who was so professional and knowledgeable--just the model of quiet competence and customer first attitude every time we interacted.
Rooms were immaculate--felt like I was the first guest to have ever stayed in the room it was so clean and spotless. My only regret is that Brenda (who left a nice note after cleaning my room the second day) did not get a tip from me as I had temporarily misplaced my wallet as I was running out to catch my ride to the airport yesterday (I went to see if had fallen out in the car that was giving me the ride, only to realize that was in my uniform pocket in my suitcase that I thought I had already double checked!). Please let her know that Room 533 regrets the oversight, but appreciate the service.
Again, no areas I can think of for improvement, just reinforcing feedback for the great way the property is already run--a...
Read moreThe service and the atmosphere at the Lake Nona Residence Inn/Courtyard by Marriott is definitely a more upscale experience and far superior than any other Residence Inn or Courtyard I've experienced in the Marriott chain. We travel anywhere from 1-3x/month for my daughter's elite junior tennis across the continental US and have been for the past 5 years. Suffice it to say we have seen more than our fair share of hotel rooms in destinations that run from small nowhere towns to the most cosmopolitan cities (and we are from Chicago). This is our second time staying at the Lake Nona Residence Inn. The hotel is super convenient location-wise for our specific purpose of attending Winter Nationals at the USTA National training center. It is the only hotel that is less than 20 minutes from the training center. However, in my opinion, this is a bit of a detractor to staying here unless you need to be at the beck and call of the USTA training center...Three really isn't anything out here...there is a triple decker driving range and the National training center within 56 minutes drive and there are 3 restaurants that are on the property, but if you want choices you will have to travel typically 15 minutes one way to get to civilization and more variety. The Turkish restaurant on the property is expensive $$$-$$$$ with entrees alone in the $25 and up range. The pizza/brewery is cute, but the pizza is just okay (but we are from Chicago where pizza is par excellence from deep dish at Lou Malnati's to stuffed pizza at Giordano's to many thin crust and hand tossed offerings that range from good to great) $$. The other restaurant is almost like American tapas in the $$ price range. If you're looking for variety or quick or familiar, you have to travel. And if you want activities, shopping and amusement parks, you will have to travel 15 minutes to an hour. Airport is 15 minutes. Orlando amusement parks are all about 30-40 minutes away. Port Canaveral/Kennedy Space Center/closest beach is about 45 minutes to an hour drive. As we receive a special discounted rate for the tournament, the bang for the buck in high season...
