It was a mixed experience but let’s start with the good stuff: excellent impeccable service, clean and comfortable dining environment. The staff were very friendly and frequently came by to check in on the diners. Food also was not a long wait, served after 10 mins despite it being a Sat evening. However, the fish & chips I ordered was quite disappointing, and is the reason otherwise this would have been a great dinner. I love F&C, having lived in the UK for a good number of years. But this by far was really one of the least memorable encounters of the dish. There was little batter and there was zero crisp to it. Look at the photos and you can tell. The tartare sauce that came with it (charged at $0.30?!) was of the miserably cheap quality. I don’t mind paying for tartare sauce - though it should come with the dish like a wedge of lemon - but at least give some decent quality sauce? Also, the side of coleslaw was of a miserably stingy portion and was rather bland. What made the dish even more miserable was how it was served on a disposable paper tray with disposable cutlery, fries dumped right on top. Like what another reviewer wrote, I barely had space from the tiny tray to eat comfortably. Also, once I was midway through my meal and had finished the fish on one side, the tray tipped upwards due to the unbalanced weight of the food, and this kept happening as I would stop to move the food from one side of the tray to the middle to balance it. Not great indeed. On the other hand, the mussels were really good. The sauce was incredible, one of the most unique and best I have had in a while, and it was garnished with delicately sliced chives with a dash of alcohol that gave it the right amount of kick. The total bill came up to ~$40: fish & chips, mussels and refillable iced tea. Quite overpriced for unappetizing fish and chips served on a paper tray with disposable cutlery and cheap...

Original: In the middle of a shopping strip in College Park, there lies quite a few new restaurants clustered together. And if you are like me, and haven't gotten around to trying The Current, you are not alone. Well, that is until Ash Wednesday came around, when it seems I might not have been the only one to give this gem a try.
The Current is a tasty new restaurant serving tasty New England style Fish and Seafoods. And it is tasty!!!
Honestly, I am extremely excited to have identified this restaurant as it provides a great option for fish, perfect for friends and family to gather and enjoy.
During my visit, I had a Grouper sandwich, delicately deep fried in a light batter, with fries on the side. I also added their Hush puppies as an appetizer and paired with a Narragansett lager.
The fish was just what the doctor ordered. There is nothing better than freshly battered fish, and the way everything was prepared made for an enjoyable food treat.
With that said, they have a full menu of different fish and seafood offerings, so if you aren't into fried fish, I'm sure you'd be satisfied with something else.
I appreciate the nod to New England with signs and Narragansett on draft. Personally, I hadn't had this beer (I'm not from the New England area) so it was cool to try something new.
Most of the walls were white with canvas paintings by local artists. I found the interior still rather unenthusiastic with the basic stool-style seating.
But once the food comes out, the interior doesn't matter. It's grub time.
The staff worked hard but I feel they were greatly understaffed and unprepared for the crowd. I waited almost 45 minutes for my food. Nevertheless, the food was warm so I was happy.
In the end, the food is great and I'm looking forward to going back again...
Read moreWe’re always down to explore new seafood spots, especially ones repping New England flavors. So, we dropped by The Current Seafood Counter, and… well, let’s just say this wasn’t the splash we were hoping for.
🔎 Exploration Notes: ⚓ We ordered through a QR code, so there was almost zero interaction—except when they dropped off our drinks. Service felt distant, and we missed that personal touch. 🍸 Speaking of drinks… they hit like a college Thursday night. Strong, but in that cheap, heavy-pour kind of way. Maybe fun back in the day, but now? Not it. 🦀 They didn’t have the linguine with white clam sauce I was craving, so I went with the Soft Shell Crab Sandwich. Not my thing. 🦞 The Lobster Roll was decent but not $30-decent. I’ve had better for less. 🐟 The Blackened Mahi Current Salad? That was actually solid—a win! 🥯 Hushpuppies were bomb. Crispy, hot, and totally addictive.
🌟 Exploravour Score (1-5): 🏡 Ambiance – 2/5 (Casual but lacked any real vibe. Felt more like a quick stop than an experience.) 👩🍳 Service – 3/5 (Basic and distant. No complaints, but nothing stood out.) 🍴 Food – 3/5 (Some hits, some misses. Mahi salad and hushpuppies saved the day.) 🍸 Drinks – 2/5 (Strong for the sake of strong. Missing finesse.) 💰 Value for Money – 3/5 (Price point didn’t match the quality. $30 for a lobster roll that didn’t wow? Meh.) 🎭 Guest Experience – 2/5 (Forgettable. We left feeling…...
