Zaxby's Chicken Fingers & Buffalo Wings — Restaurant in Orlando

No one cleaned front room in 2 hours; mostly deep fried stuff on menu (pickles, Texas toast, 12 sauces including Zax sauce); good enough chicken fingers; old oil on French fries; the server was nice at the register but didn’t do an upsell or ask if I had questions (I said I was looking at the whole menu so they backed off and waited quietly); ice machine out of ice and three drink dispensers unmarked (sweet or unsweet tea? Idk); one good soda/vitamin water/ice machine; lots of people doing business calls or scrolling on their phones. Music was country music almost the whole time.

My friend asked to meet me here. Their family eats gluten free low salt so I was surprised.

It was my first time eating at Zaxbys. Zaxbys website touted their 12 sauces and chicken recipe. This restaurant did NOT include the 12 sauces on their menu. I wondered why.

So the only semi-healthy thing on the menu was the house salad with grilled chicken and low-cal raspberry vinaigrette. But even that came with Texas toast and deep fried onions.

I liked the grilled chicken and the greens and tomatoes on my salad. I ordered the chicken fingers with Zax sauce to try the secret recipe sauce.

The famously secret recipe sauce tasted like mayo, dill pickle juice and lots of black pepper. It wasn’t sweet at all but it was a brownish orange as if a touch of ketchup was in there. Maybe paprika and soy sauce?? Try it for yourself. It’s pretty brown. Gravy Master crossed my mind.

My friend said the meal was a treat for working hard this week. I guess that’s why the normal gluten-free rule went...

I tried to write my complaint into zaxby’s website but they only allow like 1 paragraph.

There was literally gum in my bag of food. Not sure if someone deliberately spit it or dropped it. But I accidentally touched it when trying to combine both bags into one. I went back to drive through to tell them and there was no apology, no care in the world. They did say they’d remake it. But didn’t seem to genuinely care for what they did. I realized, most restaurants offer to refund the bill when stuff like this happens. But they only offered to take the food back and make it again. But at this point. I did not trust them to make my food. I did not want anyone to spit in my food or put more gum in it. The manager wasn’t even apologetic at all. I waved to get their attention to ask for a refund. Which to me is just common courtesy at this point. But she asked if I wanted the food to still be made. Her only concern was what to tell the people in the back. I said, “I don’t care anymore, I have zero appetite.” She said okay, and yelled for them to stop cooking. I was like.. why has not one person offered an apology or any sense of genuine customer service. They just did what robotically seemed like what they were programmed to do, the bare minimum. I’ve been eating at zaxby’s for so many years. I am really considering never going back ever again. First of all, who lets anyone chew gum in the kitchen?
