I'm glad to have a McDonald's in our small town. You know what food to expect, it's not very expensive, and it has a drive through.
However. It always seems that there is a long wait in the drive thru. The outside menu sign was just replaced, so an obsolete marquis is no longer a problem. But for several months now the speakers haven't been working well. This last trip we were asked to place our orders at the first window. Hence the long line, with impatient people driving off before ordering.
Also, even when you order other things, they have started charging $1.00 for previously free cups of water (Harding's sells 25 cent bottles at the checkout, just a block away). I also miss the McChicken, which no longer appears on the menu.
Occasionally I will eat inside, usually with a friend so we can have a quick chat. Not very many places in this town where that's possible. But it's not very inviting.
So, do I go here? Yes. Do I anticipate a long wait in the drive through? Absolutely. And so should you. Be nice; there aren't many other options if you want a drive through and don't want to cook your own food! 😊
**Update: It will be interesting to see if anything changes after the extensive remodeling is finished.
*Update 27 April, 2023.
The inside remodel looks very nice. Fewer seats. But streamlined.
There are now two lanes in the drive-thru. Every order begins with asking whether the McDonald app is being used for this order. After that, the drive-thru is fairly smooth, with new, updated screens that allow you to view your order as placed. And the New speakers work pretty well. Still a long wait (i actually ran out of gas tonight while waiting in line and had to pull off), but the orders are correct.
Its pretty clear this franchise wants to do the bulk of its business via drive-thru. There are two cashier stations at the new, small counter. Without attendants. Orders must be placed at the electronic kiosk. So, if you have cash only, you are out of luck! And by the way, a cup of water is $1 at the kiosk, also. When you do place a kiosk order, you should take a table number, so your food can be brought to you.
It's nearly impossible to get any help from a live person, whether it's for catsup, missing items, or anything else. Twice that I've been inside over the last week there has either been on attendant, who is being run to death (poor guy--he was trying his best), or no front attendant at all.
Also, more staff is needed to keep tables clean. And the McChicken is on the menu. 🙂
I almost forgot the very best thing: the ice cream machine is working!! I hope it stays that way, since there isn't anywhere else in town to order a...
Read moreIdk who manages this McDonalds, but whoever does needs to be fired, cuz ever since the renovation, things just haven't been the same. Mainly, the afternoon employees, they are scared or just unable to deal with school-age children who either want to hang out with friends and eat or start a fight in the bathroom. Whenever there is a fight, instead of the manager taking corrective action themselves (like locking the dining room door during the afternoons,) they instead call the principal of the school I go to, expecting they will be able to take corrective action, and that the manager won't have to do anything. Oh, and did I forget? They always threaten about school-age children not being allowed to go to McDonalds anymore... They must be so desperate now... because I just visited this exact McDonalds about a half hour ago, and I literally saw 8 no loitering signs. 2 of them the manager made that are green, and they must've just ordered 6 more from corporate to put on the walls, because I have not seen those signs the last time I visited, I only saw the 2 green ones. These signs literally ruin the whole atmosphere. This is why I try my best to avoid this location at all costs.
Edit (12/23/24): I forgot to mention this McDonalds is inconsistent with the time when the breakfast menu changes to the normal menu. Today, we ordered off the app with the breakfast stuff. However when we visited it was already 10:30 am, and due to the menu changing the staff couldn't give us our food. We entered, still 8 no loitering signs btw, the staff said we would be refunded. We then tried to order off the app again. However, the menu on the app did not update, so we took our business over to subway instead. This happened before, except the time the menu changed was 11am. However, the app was displaying the...
Read moreThere are only a few places to dine in Berrien Springs, and this Mc Donald was a great place to go in and out quick, and enjoy a meal in peace. I've been going here for many year, but over the years I feel the service has been degrading.
Short Version: Rude staff members
For one, the staff is not the friendliest bunch. I mean you don't have to love your job, but a simple hi and you're welcome in return to my hello and thank you would suffice. They take your order and hand you a tray, that's it. There was one occasion in particular that really hit my nerve. I was exiting the building and one of the staff members said good bye, but a staff member that took my order said to him, "why even bother, he doesnt even speak english." We are fortunate to have such a international population in Berrien Springs for our size. I feel like the lady said that just because I'm Asian. I spoke clear fluent english when she took my order so I dont understandand why she would say such a thing to me. Another problem with this place is that the staff use this place as some kind of hang out. On numerous occasions I've seen the staff hanging out with their friends at the counter creating a commotion. Many times the noise was out of control and many customers turned heads just to check what was going on. Their fun at work effected their service because there was people starting to accumulate awaiting their order and I saw the poor shift manager having to apologize for the...
