China Star — Restaurant in Ottumwa

I go here quite a bit and usually don't have an abundance of issues. They do sometimes make you feel rushed with as quickly as they bring your check. I always have to ask for extra napkins because they only leave enough for each person one. However, Lately I have been taking the food to go and it seems like more times than not I'm having to wait for more food to be brought out. I requested specifically green beans at one point and the lady coming from the kitchen told me there were still green beans there in the pan, she must have been talking about the 8-10 shriveled, dried up ones I had already pushed to the side of the pan. She did bring more after a few minutes of seeing me stand to the side and wait. For a place that charges by the pound on their take out you would think they would want to keep their buffet...

I've reviewed this place a few times in the past...and I stand behind those comments still.

Food is cold, kinda bland, crab Rangoon is awful, general Taos chicken is supposed to be spicy.

I'm curious how much is homemade and not just warmed up from the freezer?

The booth seating is completely worn out. Some touch-up paint where the chairs scrape the walls wouldn't be a bad idea either.

I couldn't wait to get out of there because they are either very stingy with the air conditioning...or it has never worked. This is an issue on every visit.

If you think this place is great, you need to treat yourself to a China buffet anywhere outside of Ottumwa.

3 Stars for friendly staff, available food options and cleanliness 2 stars removed due to some food items lacking flavor

Been traveling around locally to find a decent asian buffet that I could come back to when passing through, but coming into Ottumwa, may have to keep looking. Still alright if you're just looking for a bite to eat though.
