Falafel Express — Restaurant in Overland Park

To preface, I've been eating here regulary alone and with friends, dine in and takeout for just over a year. This is the only place that's every been consistently good enough to ever compel me to leave a review.

To put it simply, the food is amazing, the service is homely, and the atmosphere is welcoming. The standard chicken wrap or arabi wrap which comes with fries are both amazing. If that's not your style, you can't go wrong building your own bowl or wrap. I've never had a friend complain when I bring them here, whether they build there own bowl/wrap or order off the menu.

As for the Service, simply phenominal. I've seen other reviews say different, but I've probably been here 50+ times over the course of 1+ years at all times of the day, and I've never had anything but wonderful service. The staff are always friendly regardless of how busy they are, they constantly check on you, and everything gets made quickly. They'll offer extra sauces, drinks, or every now and then give us peta on the house. It's not expected, but those little things after eating here so much really make me and anyone I eat with here feel like valued, regular customers.

The atmosphere doesn't miss either. It's simple and chill. It's never super loud or busy, pretty much what you'd expect. However, they always have good music playing. Falafel Express offers a good casual meal to just chat and enjoy the amazing food and service.

Edit: Editing my review to a 1 star. We came back tonight after having a great experience the first time a month ago. Tonight was the complete opposite. We got here 5-10mins before 8pm, the girl working behind the counter was all flustered, from what I gather they had a difficult customer before hand complaining about the prices being too high. It took her a minute to take our order. She was nice & I didn’t mind it at first until another lady came out and started slamming the chairs and tables. This was 30mins. prior to closing. My husband & I drove almost 30 mins away to sit down and enjoy some good food. But that wasn’t the case tonight because they put the tables and chairs up 30mins. before closing. You can hear people arguing loudly in the back, the girl was all over the place complaining. I’ve worked in customer service, if there’s one thing instilled in me, it’s that the customers shouldn’t have to hear about what kind of day your having. We came to have a nice, quiet dinner not to hear about your bad day. Food was still good, but our experience tonight was terrible & uncomfortable.

I’m not sure what happened to this place over the summer but service has slowed significantly. I used to place an order and show up to have it ready to go. Now I can show up and still have to wait to get it made fresh. Pre-ordering takes the full 25 min if I’m lucky when it used to be less than 10. Tonight I got the excuse that the fries were the issue taking so much time. If you have a menu item that takes 25 min to make that’s a problem (and I never had that issue before). BUT the reality is that I heard them drop the fries after I arrived and watched another patron come in after I arrived, order, and get their food at the same time I did.

The quality of food has declined and I just can’t tell what happened to my old favorite go-to place for dinner. I’m really sad to see these changes because this was THE place for yummy and fresh food.
