Jalapenos — Restaurant in Overland Park

While dining out you may think you've been enjoying mexican food at its finest, but you're not. If you haven't been to Jalapenos Mexican Restaurant, that is. I've had a number of friends that have taken me to mexican restaurants across the city; on both sides of the state line. I've been disappointed most of the time, not always, but mostly. Jalapenos Stanley, KS is my go-to location. If you're parched they have a full bar, yes they have wine too. I'm partial to their strawberry daiquiris, when my daughter was younger I ordered virgins for her. As is customary you'll enjoy crisp, warm, chips and fresh salsa, but you must try the Jalapeno Dip, it's a melt in your mouth experience, you won't forget to order the next time you're in. The flavor fragrance that fills the air will cause you to salivate, and when your food arrives, it's hot and you'll be pleased with the timing. We usually go to K Macho's if we want sit down mexican food, but being a Saturday evening, the wait there is typically an hour so we opted for something closer and faster. We didn't have to wait long here, we were sat almost immediately and the hostess was very sweet. The service was okay...our waitress was a little blunt and seemed to care more for her bigger parties. We got our food in a decent time though, however, we didn't think the food was anything special. I thought the chicken wasn't seasoned well and it was a bit dry. My fiancé thought his food was alright (a burrito), but not better than other places we've been. And the thing is, it ended up being MORE expensive than K Machos, and we ordered the same type of dishes we would have gotten there. This place has no business being more expensive than K machos for the quality of food they deliver! It's ok if you're desperate for Mexican, but next time we'll probably just go somewhere...

This place is always good. I worked at the Brookside location all through high-school and it's still one of my favorite places. Their crispy tacos are perfection. They stuff the thin shells with delicious chicken or beef and fry them to perfection, topped with crisp cold fresh lettuce, juicy tomatoes and the best cheese amd green onions. Their enchiladas are one of a kind in a city that does enchiladas evey way to Sunday. When i was stationed in Ft. Drum New Yark in the military while I was pregnant my parents literally shhipped me a meal on dry ice i was craving it so bad. Theres a reason they've been around for 20 years and are still dominating the KC Mexican food scene. A classic in Brookside or OP. Simply the best comfort food around. You just gotta go.
