There were 2 adults and 3 children under 5. Two of our kids had a birthday and we came to the restaurant to celebrate. I asked the waiter about meals for the kids because they don’t eat much. She agreed we can have 3 meals and it should be fine for all 5 since the kids don’t eat much. And that she won’t add the extra $10 for sharing for each child. We ordered shrimp, steak and chicken. On the receipt, I was charged 3 meals and 10x3 for fried rice. So I was charged $30 for rice I never received as extra. I wasn’t even asked about steamed rice and she picked the friend rice for me. Mind you, the amount of food served is a single person meal so it was 3 full single person meals. When the bill came and I asked the waitress about the charge she didn’t seem to understand. And because of us being a group of 5, we were charged a service fee based on the amount of food we ordered which was already $30 more, and then came back to ask to add tip. Everyone was nice and the service was kind but this completely made me feel bamboozled. I asked once about the fees and because she wasn’t understanding, I didn’t want to come off as being rude. But I am writing to let everyone know that what they say and what they’ll do are two completely different situations. I’m very big on supporting locals and try to tip 20% but this experience made me feel like I was being forced which made me feel uncomfortable. I paid but I won’t be...
Read moreI ordered this through GrubHub. I have never been inside, and so I will not be commenting on that experience.
I am blown away. For the price that I paid, ($11.95), I received three sushi rolls (I chose Crunch, Spicy Tuna, Philadelphia), a salad, and miso soup. The salad and soup was never listed, so it was a bonus. It is a standard salad that a lot of sushi places have, and the dressing (while on the sweeter side) is delicious. It’s regular ol’ miso soup, but chock full of goodies and the broth has excellent flavor. For this price, I anticipated buffet quality, which is whatever if that’s what you’re paying for. Now, the sushi rolls! The crunch was my least favorite, there wasn’t anything wrong with it at all and it’s still amazing. The spicy tuna is good, but if you’re wanting that heat don’t be afraid of the wasabi. The Philadelphia may be the best I’ve had. Not kidding. Surely it isn’t CA sushi but the salmon was so fresh, soft, and delicious. All the ingredients and items I received were the freshest they could offer. It is not a 5 star sushi restaurant in the terms of elegance but I don’t know how they pull off this 3 roll lunch deal with such great quality. For what you are paying, this is 5 stars.
With a $5 off GrubHub perk, I would have paid $10 after tip if not for a gift card. Best $10 I have spent on lunch in a long time. And the promotion worked, I’d pay full price the next...
Read moreI really wanted to love it and for it to succeed. For all the things the previous place did wrong when it comes to customer service Hakata did much better. Now for the not so good. The food was mediocre at best. We ordered 3 kinds of sushi rolls, they were not the best I've had but far from the worst. The yumm yumm sauce had a kick that did not really mesh with the food. The Ginger sauce was good. The rice and veggies had little to no flavor with minimal seasoning and for being fried rice I sure did have a lot of white rice still on my plate. We ordered steak chicken shrimp. The steak was well marbled and cooked to the medium we requested but was lacking flavor, the chicken was moist but under flavored and the shrimp was large. Our chef was NERVOUS and it showed. He was not fluid with his cooking or presenstion and it took us an hour and 45 min from start to finish. Im sure he will get better as the nerves wear off and the quality of his food should improve as well. He didn't offer us yumm yumm or ginger sauce until we were almost done eating. Service was very attentive but I would expect that, seeing as there was our party of 8 and 1 other party of 8 in the whole place on a Monday night at 6pm. When we left there was no one else in the place but a party of 2. I really do hope they are able to adjust and make it the experience I know they can but for now it's not a place I will frequent...
