OKIE DOKIE! LET'S TALK! BFF and I embark on an adventure! YAY! we're off to peruse my sisters estate sale in Stilwell Kansas! We're off! AND 6 miles later my check engine light comes on. 😳 oh dear. Quick u turn back to my house to switch to bffs car! Hubby (a certified mechanic and fix it anything extraordinaire) scans it and orders the part! He's the BEST. He sends us on our way in bffs car and we arrive at the estate sale. I find a couple of items as does bff. We settle up and decide HMMM, what's for lunch (it's now 1pm). What's close? I'm a tech idiot but somehow I map our way home with stops (no idea how this happened) and the Red Door restaurant pops up. I ask sister and bff, "hey! Do you guys know the red door?" And before I can finish they're both squealing and waving their arms exclaiming, "YES! GO!" okie dokie. We go. We arrive. We go in. It's an immediate GO. The atmosphere is open yet it's not like you can't hear yourself (a boon for deaf as a tick like me). We're ushered to a booth and our uber friendly server, Alllee, arrives. She's so informative and helpful! I order the wedge salad and a cup of their famous tomato soup. Bff orders their fried chicken salad. Also! Yes! We need a beverage! I have their lager beer and bff has a lemon drop. Libations arrive and my beer is light and refreshing. Bffs is so good she doesn't allow me a taste. (BOO). Food arrives and I absolutely dive in to my soup. WHAT THE HECK IS IN THE MIDDLE OF MY SOUP? oh! It's a cheese fritter. It's like a grilled cheese sandwich soaked in my bowl of creamy tomato soup. Ohmgosh! My eyes are rolling back in hideous taste pleasure. What a hidden gem. The marriage between tomato soup and grilled cheese is legendary and this excels. Bffs fried chicken salad is very good (her words). I didn't try it though it was well presented. My wedge salad had a twist with the lacing of balsamic vinegar. What a melody with the blue cheese! 👏 never had that before. Great food, great service and great atmosphere. Oh, and our way home bffs car's check engine light goes on as well. 🤣 eat here! Do not let me drive your car as I'm quite sure the check engine...
Read moreAnother three star food review. Sunday night. Packed. Put our names in for a two top. Bar seat just became available. We happen to sit next to Wally and his crew. He stated they were locals and were obviously over served. Cash money $tt ordered two Belvedere martinis with blue cheese, stuffed olives, which the bartender stated that they have those. We waited a bit listen to Wally in his crew talk about Costco chickens and then wanted to know where we lived and what we were doing there. Drinks came out delicious. Our table was ready, so we moved to the back corner of the restaurant which I kind of enjoyed because there was kids in families. Ethan our nice young waiter was extremely polite and nice and thorough. He asked if we wanted another round of drinks we said yes, we have the Belvedere martini with blue cheese stuff olives he said right away. few minutes later, the lady came over, sat down to martinis with regular olives and said they are out of blue cheese stuffed olives. Now I know that can’t be because we just ordered some from the bar and I saw them making them. I am also aware of the up charge for having a blue cheese stuffed and served. do you think she wondered? Maybe we don’t want the martini unless it has blue cheese stuffed olives? But no, I was thirsty, cash money, then asked Ethan for a side of crumbled blue cheese, which he brought right over and we stuffed our own. We put in our food order, my french fries were cold to touch and the server agreed with me so he brought out another plate of fries they were at BEST lukewarm. Cash money ate the first one and said it taste like fish. I ate the second one and yes it did taste like fish so I would assume whatever they’re frying in there maybe shrimp or I don’t know what but definitely had a fishy taste to it. The burger was OK. The salad was OK. The soup was delicious. Pickles were good. I like eating out. This was an odd experience. I would say to the lady who said they are out of blue cheese olives, just be honest and say we are too busy to make them, like you did earlier. Southland red...
Read moreAte the fish & chips which were a major disappointment as the fish tasted freezer burned. They went from the best burger in the city, containing brisket, rib tips & skirt steak to a burger that most places serve. Used to be an exceptional place, now the cost cutters have screwed up another favorite of mine & many others..We had really like supporting local folks too..Oh well, other places to patronize..
6/8/2021.. Just noticed RDG response.. I do believe that I know what I am talking about and DO NOT appreciate you making it sound as if I am talking about the wrong place. Let's see..You were started by former KBP folks, ( for those that do not know, this organization holds over 600 KFC franchises among other restaurants). The site where you are has an AWESOME mural over the bar..You have a very talented manager from the Leawood store that opened yours...I do hope that She is still with your company..I looked online and see a menu from RDG that does indeed list " Fish & Chips 14.5 Boulevard Beer battered Pacific Cod, Fries Coleslaw, tarter sauce"..Also the RDG menus did list burgers made of rib tips, brisket & skirt steak from McGonigle's...RDG later switched to a different supplier. It stayed this way until I noticed it changed after the pandemic. Lastly, your response says it is from the "owner"..How on earth can that be true ? Could it be that all employees are "employee owners" like HyVee ? Again, there are many of us that are eating elsewhere as surely you have "cut corners" in other areas as well. We enjoyed you spots for so many years & hate to see RDG going downhill..Luckily there are many other places to patronize. I suggest in the future you react in a more informed,...
