My dear friend is in town visiting her mom, and I zip in to OPKS (overland park kansas) to see her! Her sister recommended this place, so off we go! Walk in, and at first, I'm thinking, "Wow, a dive" because obviously guests have written all over the walls, etc. But! It's extremely clean. We're seated in a booth (yay), and our server, Michaela, arrives within seconds. She's super friendly and efficient. The menu is funky, and funny names for dishes are very clever. Seriously, everything looks extraordinarily tasty, and I finally decide on the "tostada ensalada." Nic has the "do I look big in these pants." (See? Isn't that clever?) My tostado arrives, and it literally is as big as my head. It's just massive! Plus, when I pick it up to eat it, it's so big that stuff falls off and onto my hands, face, and fingers. It's pretty awkward, but boy! It's one of the tastiest I've ever eaten. There's ALOT of mixed greens but I can still taste the beans, guacamole, tomatoes and cheese. Nice combo despite the over abundance of greens. The avocado dressing is super creamy and it tastes alot like ranch as I didn't taste much avocado. It's still very good though! Nics dish was pronounced great and her fruit side looked especially fresh. The bathroom was as "divey " as the restaurant but again, very clean. There are other items on the menu I'd like to try so I'll shoehorn hubby into the car and come again! It's we'll worth the trip. Great food, service and it's not pricey at all! I also want to try their alcoholic milkshakes (for comparison purposes only 🤣 versus "the burger stand" ones. Definitely next time!

Our experience at Saturday brunch was "pretty OK". We waited a little over half an hour for a table, which was within expectations. I think we were inadvertently part of a big rush. Service was nice, but not speedy. Food was OK. My biscuit must've spent 40 days wandering the desert before it got to me. It tasted alright, but its crispy-crumbly-dry texture was unpleasant and made it extraordinarily difficult to eat. My skillet (Smoke 'em if you got 'em) had some good flavors, but both the pork and turkey were very dry. I tried to sub egg whites, but got over-easy. (My digestive system is unpleasantly sensitive to egg yolks unless they've been cooked to death). But the dish was already dry and lukewarm, so I didn't dare try to send it back or get a new egg. The bed of hash browns was less than I expected and just soggy by the time I was served. Coffee was good. Decor is fun. They've got some farmhouse themes, some interesting lights and signs, and their famous "everything covered in signatures" motif, which I enjoyed. I even found a friend's name, which was fun! I would like to go back at a more off-peak time and see if the experience is better. Shack has a lot of promise and I like their menu, but the execution was off. It's a perfectly serviceable brunch spot, but is hard to recommend over other JoCo spots like Urban Egg.

The service here seems corporate but our service was great. Truly a great server I think his name was Cameron. Food presentation was great. However, the menu is micromanaged like a Cheesecake Factory. I'll prove a point. One dish came out topped with sausage gravy that has a lot of flour in it only so that it will stay in place on the dish. It's not wrong but tasting flour in gravy doesn't make it better. I get it, you don't want gravy all over the place. Same with the queso on my dish which mostly solid when it arrived at the table but was hot and not melty. More of a sauce with flour in it than a queso. I believe the description of one dish said it would be topped with salsa but came out with Pico which can be a salsa but that's not what they're doing with it. They're using it as a garnish and using red onions in it for pretty pictures. The corporate chef here is truly stuck on clean and tidy on the plate but the surrounding atmosphere and menu tell a different story. They don't match well. Again, service was awesome mostly because his personality succeeded over his corporate training and that is very hard to find and not something that can be taught. Nice work.

This was the worst experience I have had at a dining establishment from the moment we walked in. I asked for sitting for 2 and was told that we could just go to the bar, I asked if tables were available and was scoffed at before we were brought to a table (there were several open). We waited for a bit before our waitress joined us which was fine since it was towards the end of the breakfast rush. She greeted us with lukewarm water with no ice, which is fine, we didn't complain. We ordered our food after waiting for a bit again.. I ordered the steak omelet (it comes with green peppers, onion and cheese). I asked for no green peppers and to add mushroom instead, she didn't seem like this would be a problem. When our food arrived, my omelet had red peppers added to it as well. I then let her know that I didn't want the peppers and I asked for none. She argued with me that I asked for no GREEN peppers which is true, but that is only because green was the only pepper listed on the menu so why would I need to remove something that is it not listed? Did I need to say no spinach as well? Kitchen remade my omelet and returned it with ONLY MUSHROOM, no steak or onions. The waitress was very condescending the entire time and kept making me feel like the wrong things were of my own doing. I did not complain about the re-done omelet at this time. I just honestly wanted to have a nice birthday breakfast/brunch and it was anything but. I will never return to this establishment. My advise to management is to hire a more competent and welcoming staff. And make sure that your wait staff actually takes allergies more seriously before they really hurt someone or...

My first time here the wait was too long for just two people wanting to have breakfast. Was told 40 minute wait ended up being an hour. Coffee was good and hot, they give you an entire pitcher, which I like. Same with a bottle of water for the table. Being able to poor your own coffee when you want instead waiting on your server is great. I wish she would have wiped the container first, it was very dirty. I ordered the meatloaf with eggs. It was pretty okay, I got about halfway through eating it and there was paper trash between the sunny side up egg and the meatloaf. How did it get there! I've seen pieces of napkin or leftover food dried on a plate but never in the middle of the food. The server took it away, manager came to apologize. Asked me if I wanted another. Said yes. Appreciate the apology. The second plate was hotter and tasted better than the first. No paper trash in it this time. They offered me a coffee to go and didn't charge me for my meal. I ate some of my girlfriends meal, it was way better than what I got. If I do go back I'm thinking french toast sandwich or whatever it was she had. Servicer was nice, just wish she didn't joke so much about the trash in my food. It's not funny. It's actually disgusting. Just like the dirty coffee pot and the glass water carafe covered in finger prints. Wipe those things before you leave them...
