You might as well plan to get a haircut after you’ve patron the sonic because by the time you get your food, you’ll need one.…ESPECIALLY if you decide to use DoorDash to attempt to get your food. In the multiple times I have been a patron of this sonic in particular the service is painfully slow — you can go there when it is dead as a door nail and you will wait at least 20 minutes to get a single burger and a milkshake then when/if you do get your food, there’s a 50-50 chance it’ll be incorrect. I’m not talking the “Karen Special“ With three pickles, two drops of mayonnaise, one drop of mustard, one leaf of non-gmo green lettuce…

I work remotely from home, so I decided to DoorDash in order as I was slammed and I could see from my House that sonic was not busy at all, So I thought “hey, DoorDash says 15 minutes I’ll get a quick bite and be back at it”… Not so much.
Not one, not two not three but SIX separate drivers went to sonic and canceled because my order was taking too long…over an hour long wait period - still no food?? I had to go investigate and mind you for the last 30 minutes of the hour long wait I relocated my laptop so I could physically watch the not busy at all parking lot.
I literally watched multiple DoorDash drivers come and physically exit their vehicles to enquire about my order then leave. What they were told? I don’t know, but when I questioned the manager, after showing up in person with the DoorDash is still there waiting on my food. An hour later, he gave me the excuse that they were busy… “Busy” as he pointed to all of the employee cars with no one, sitting in them, parked on the south east corner of the lot. I then told him I also watched multiple employees taking smoke breaks some of them the same employees twice in the 30 minutes I was watching from my house waiting for my food so apparently they weren’t that “busy“
I don’t have much money but for what I do have I work very hard for so when I spend $18 on fast food for one person and not even a combo with that a burger with a shake, 20 bucks.finally get my almost 9 dollar burger of course, no bacon added, and my seven dollar blizzard was mostly vanilla ice cream with some brownie bites sprinkled on the top. Not the brownie chunk, whatever it was called on the menu. I picked up my food in person with the DoorDash or still there after waiting an hour, and I wasn’t even offered a Free drink or my meal compensated, compensation for a haircut Which I then needed, lost wages or where Taryn mileage pick one of the above. I would’ve been happy with anything but “well we were busy, sir“ Like I’ve never worked in retail or restaurant industry 20 years
Bottom line, the franchise owner of this location should be ashamed of the way it is being operated. Especially In such a high traffic area on 135th Street being by the Multiple sports complexes and hotels not only is that a lot of lost revenue, in my eyes It can leave a bitter taste to someone Traveling in our area. I hope this location can get back to what it used to be. As a lifetime resident, I love my KansasCity. This is the first one star review I’ve ever given out in my life, but they had to work very hard to earn it.

I have had a few snafu's in the past that have been quickly rectified by the manager (not remembering her name). Today I had a particularly bad experience. My boyfriend and I placed an order on the Sonic app from the car as we were pulling away from our home heading to Sonic for pickup to insure our order to be hot, as we would be bringing it back to eat at home. When we arrived back home we found both of our burgers did not have the added ingredients requested, with one of them completely missing normal vegetables. I called and spoke with the manager, J. J., (new to me). He was very apologetic and offered to replace our order immediately or at a later date. We chose immediate and my bf was out the door as I was hanging up the phone. He arrived back in approx 15 minutes, handed me my new burger, my immediate response was that it was not even hot, barely warm, before I even unwrapped. I opened it and took a bite of a barely tepid burger. My bf had cut his in half and said his center was cool and his cheese just an unmelted square! I called the manager, J. J., back and told him that while I appreciated his efforts, our burgers were cold. He insisted that he had cooked them fresh, just pulling them off the grill and making sure the cheese was melted before putting the burgers together and having them brought to the car. I told him how disappointed I was. He offered no apology and responded that there was nothing more he could do. I told him, no there was not anything else to do, at least today, and I thought he needed to know. Will this be my last visit? No., But I will certainly be checking my food before I leave...
Read moreI’ve been coming to this Sonic Drive-In for several years, and over the past four months I’ve especially noticed how outstanding the food and service have been. Every visit feels consistent and enjoyable.
The management team deserves a lot of credit—Travis, the manager, is incredibly friendly, humble, and approachable. The staff at the drive-through are always polite and attentive, with Logan standing out for his consistent friendliness.
The food is always served hot, fresh, and delicious. Even on the busiest nights—Thursday through Saturday—the team manages to get orders out quickly without sacrificing quality. The restaurant is kept very clean, and I really appreciate the neat food wrapping and presentation. The slushes are excellent, and the wait time is always minimal. The Sonic Smashers are also a highlight—very freshly flavored and well-packaged, which makes them a treat every time.
I asked about the kitchen staff and learned that one of them is Sanu. I’d love to give a tip sometimes but wasn’t sure if it makes its way back to the kitchen crew. It would be great if the team behind the scenes could be recognized too.
This Sonic is a perfect example of how great management, teamwork, and customer service can make a big difference. Whether it’s grabbing food through the drive-through or sitting outside to enjoy the view, I highly recommend...
