This place is absolutely magnificent!
I went for my second visit and took my wife for her first after we tried several other Mediterranean places in the metro.
I remembered Yafa Café being the best Mediterranean food I had had in the city. This was confirmed on my second visit.
The staff here is lovely and you can tell it’s a family run place. Everyone is very kind and helpful. They will walk you through the menu or answer any questions you have.
We started out with the hummus, which was absolutely divine. It’s pretty much the perfect recipe and consistency. Nothing stands out like tahini or garlic to color the flavor in a negative way. It’s my favorite hummus that I’ve ever had.
The grape leaves are here are also spectacular. They are homemade with just the right amount of lemon and a little tartness. They are packed with flavor and a good value for the price.
We also had the Kibbie which was warm and lovely.
And for our entrée, we shared a beef Shawarma plate as we had filled up on amazing appetizers.
We already have plans to return with some friends who live nearby. We drove over from Lee’s Summit and will do so again because this place is just excellent. Thank you for bringing your food to our...
Read moreThis was our first visit to Yafa Cafe in Overland Park, Kansas. A family owned, family run Mediterranean style restaurant. We were greeted by the owner and her family and they immediately made us feel welcomed. The menu here offers a wide variety of choices and since it was our first visit, we asked for suggestions from the owner. We found out that these are family recipes and they take great care in the quality of their food. We started with the hummus and baba ghanoush with pita bread. Some of the best we have had. We also ordered the chicken curry and the chicken shawarma. The flavors were wonderful and spices were subtle and complex. They came with rice, and a choice of salad or soup. Servings were very generous and we had plenty to take home and enjoy for a second meal. We finished with hot tea with mint.
Finding a place these days that is inviting and friendly with great food and caring people is a rarity. We are so glad we found Yafa Cafe to be one of those places. We will definitely be back and we will recommend this place to everyone but especially to family and friends. We hope you enjoy your visit as...
Read moreThis is my favorite Mediterranean restaurant in Overland Park. Their hummus is fresh, creamy, and delicious. Their baba ganoush has that smoky taste I crave for. It's worth it to come and eat those two items. The best thing I love about this place is its value and its menu structure. Their Yafa (Hebrew for pretty) combo has all of the things I like to eat: gyro meat, hummus, baba ganoush, rice, pita, and a salad (or soup). All of it for only $14. At most other restaurants, there isn't a menu item that contains all of my favorites, I have to order an entree and add one or two more items a la carte on the side. It's a lot more expensive and inefficient. Yafa is minimalist in its furnishings and does not have a fancy atmosphere. It's a bit of a " hole in a wall" eatery. I ate there Friday night during prime dinner time and there were only 3 other tables of customers. I almost didn't want to post this because I feel Yafa is a hidden gem, and if the words get out I will have a hard time getting a table when I want...
