Kelly's Ice Cream is a legend in the 407. We recently got one opened up just a stone's throw away from where we live, so we decided to go and check it out, finally.

I will say that this Kelly's is the same as all the other Kelly's. I like the consistency. So now I can talk about why I like Kelly's in general. First of all, my favorite thing about Kelly's is that they do the monthly special flavors, every month. That is the coolest thing and the best way to keep your customers coming back for more.

And they're smart about it, too. There are five new flavors every month, but they don't make you buy five orders of ice cream. They have an ice cream flight option! Four small waffle bowls with four small scoops of whatever flavors you want. Genius.

Not only that, but the way they compose their flavors is great, too. They're not just stuffing chunks of stuff into vanilla or chocolate. They're changing up the base up in which the chunks of stuff are in, and they're putting in swirls of stuff! Also genius.

For example, during the month of May, their ice cream bases are key lime cake batter ice cream, spiced mocha coffee ice cream, pineapple ice cream, and malted vanilla. Those are some great bases for flavors.

Quite traditional, they offer a number of cones, bowls, sundaes, floats, and shakes, but none of the mix-ins or blended ice cream confections popular at soft serve, custard, or cold counter (such as Cold Stone) establishments. You won't complain.

The ice cream flight is a nice touch.

Expect a line. It's a bit of a grumble.

No samples. Use your imagination on the flavors. Another grumble, but they're busy and no ice cream shoppe -has- to offer them.
