I like to buy local, and have made several purchases here. When they first opened I went in there. I picked out cookies and other items, the person working noticed mold on one of my items and replaced it. But I still wanted to give them a chance. I have ordered several cakes, and ordered cookies and cupcakes through DoorDash. But my husband told me to stop. I don’t eat any of this stuff. But he said it was old stuff. This last visit was horrible. I preordered a cheesecake, and asked if the could write happy birthday on it. I went to pick it up, and they didn’t write happy birthday. The girl working tried to accommodate, but it was no big deal. I should have known something was wrong when she said, oh you ordered a chocolate cheesecake? No vanilla I said. We had company from out of town, and I was wondering why everyone was only taking one bite of their cheesecake and leaving it. When I looked I was so embarrassed. It was burnt, bad! The crust was thicker than the cheese filling, and burnt! The filling just crumbled apart. It was horrible! I had to throw it all away. I don’t mind paying the price, but I expect quality for what I pay. So embarrassing for me at my dinner party, and that was the only dessert I had. I was looking for a bakery that made the white shaved chocolate cake with a raspberry cream filling for my daughter’s 30th birthday. I put out an SOS on the Nextdoor app and was referred to Cupcakes and Kisses in Oxford. My husband and I walked in and explained what we were looking for. Although they don’t make that kind of cake, they showed us samples of different style cakes they do make and said they could do a raspberry fluff filling. We agreed to give it a try. We also asked if they could make a very small 3 tier cake. My husband’s mother died when he was 15. I had found a picture of his mother on her 30th birthday with a 3 tier cake. I wanted to replicate the picture with our daughter. I showed them a picture and they said they would make it happen. Everyone at the party LOVED the cakes. We really, really want to like this place since there is no good bakery around here. We stopped in on opening weekend and dropped some serious coin wanting to try everything. Unfortunately, none of it was very good. We figured maybe it was because they just opened and pre-made all their stuff in preparation for being busy. We went back several months later thinking it was ample time to make things fresh. That wasn't the case. We tried again today, and it's still the same. Their cupcakes are dry, and their buttercream is gritty. We always spend a ton of money there trying to find one redeeming thing. Unfortunately, like most bakeries, they concentrate more on how things look than how things taste. I would like to see fresh baked goods that are moist with pleasing flavors...
