Billy's is a hidden gem. Vienna Beef Hall of Fame level Chicago Dog standards executed perfectly, and a whole lot of custom fresh option entres too.
Decor and cleanliness had me taken aback and confused. This is not your greasy sticky hotdog hole in the wall I've come to accept after decades of Vienna Beef dives around the city. Spic and span dining room and kitchen, everything fresh and clean and cared for. Spices and fresh ingredients. Adorable Easter decor blended with the expected Bears and Bulls posters. Italian beef perfectly seasoned on a fresh roll, not too soggy and not too dry, topped with your choice of sweet or spicy peppers. Chicago dog is the classic I expected, not trying anything special that would screw it up, with a crisp half spear pickle. Fries are perfect crinkle cut, with an extra starchy crunch and not greasy.
For anyone comparing and complaining about prices, realize that everyon'e ingredient costs have jumped significantly in the last few years. Yeah it feels 'crazy' to spend $5 on a hot dog and $10 on a beef. But the option is to either pay what you were used to and accept a cut in size, quality of the ingredients and prep details, or pay up for quality food. Everyone's just passing on the cost. Go eat a cheaper bland meal somewhere else.
A must stop. I would eat a dog here every day if I could,...
Read moreBilly's is really good. The owner is Greek I believe. They have foods with the Greek twist. I get the Billy's chicken kabobs and they are very good. They have the Greek lemon pepper seasoning and comes with a pita. You can get fries like I do or you can choose the dinner option to get salad and sides. I havent ventured through the menu very much as I am stuck on the chicken kabobs and get them every time I go there. As a matter of fact they know me now and I can just walk up and say "the usual" and I will get the chicken kabobs with fries and special ordered like I do. Meaning I get it to go so I have them give me the tzatziki sauce and pita on the side so by the time I get to where I'm going I don't have a soggy pita bread. I recommend Billy's, the people are nice and the dining area is a bit darker and quite quaint. Give it try, I believe you'll...
Read moreEasy to miss the specials board since customers waiting dor orders were standing in front of it. Too cluttered and busy at point of order for diest time visitors unless the counter person wants to help guide the culinary experience which wasnt the case on my day of visit. The patty melts best attribute was the bread that it was served on, which can doom a patty melt. Perfectly toasted and buttery. The negatives...the burger was HAMMERED, abd the onions had zero flavor and we're room temp. Obviously the onions were "caramelized" ahead (possibly days ahead) abd added nothing to the well done, dry, tasteless burger patty which dispiter its brown interior wasnt a hockey puck...possbly made in advance and reheated? Color me...
