What a fun little place with great food ! They offer both indoor and outdoor seating . We chose the outdoor seating and had some cocktails before dinner at our own personal fire pit table ( it was chilly ) . They had a guitar player for entertainment and he played plenty of songs we could sing along with , and provided a nice ambiance . We had the conch fritters for our appetizer and they were loaded with more conch than any conch fritter I have ever had . My lobster roll was filled with plenty of lobster and the bread was super fresh and delicious . The French fries are hand made and were cooked perfectly . I was particularly impressed with the home made fries . Many times natural fries are soft and taste like starch but these were crisp, hot, and seasoned perfectly. My guest had the perfectly cooked grouper sandwich and the cut of grouper was nice size and his bread was fresh. Our guests commented on how drag the bread and slaw were . My wife had the wedge salad with add on shrimp . A huge portion and the shrimp were nice size and cooked perfect. We also had their burger and it was large and delicious . The restrooms were clean and the restaurant had a cozy warm beach feel. Our server Jay was neat and clean with friendly attitude and the service was excellent. we never lacked for drinks or attention and never had to ask for anything . The other dinners around us seemed to enjoy their meals. I live local and used to come here when it we bar fly . I have to admit the new owners have done a great job improving the food and the prices were very reasonable . This is our go to spot in Palm Harbor Compliments to the chef and especially fry side because you don’t find French fries done perfectly every time like the ones we enjoyed . Overall excellent meal in fun friendly atmosphere . DO not be afraid to eat outside in the cold . They have heaters above the tables and scattered through the dinning area as well as personal fire pits on some of...
Read moreReally wanted to love it but the quality and flavors of the dishes were just not up to par with the previous owners of BarFly, nor was the menu. 1st disappointment, they removed the snow crab from their menu. 2nd, didn't really care for their menu choices. We started with the jumbo pretzel appetizer and ordered extra cheese sauce as there were 4 of us and those little plastic ramekin cups all restaurants seem to use now, barely hold enough of anything for more than one serving. The pretzel came out about 20 minutes later and looked like it was left in the oven overnight, and could they spare the salt?? Now I love extra crispy but the danger of breaking a tooth when biting into it was real (photo included). On top of that, no extra cheese sauce. The pretzel was actually very good if you just pretended you were eating one of those fat, super crunchy, hard, sourdough pretzels you can buy in the bag in the supermarket. The waiter had to be asked a 2nd time for the extra cheese sauce we ordered and unfortunately we were almost done eating when it was finally delivered. For our entrees, a few of us ordered the fish and chips. The fries were out of this world. Crispy on the outside, great texture on the inside. Flavor also fantastic. Honestly, some of the best French fries I've ever had. The Cole slaw was also very good.. The fish on the other hand, was lacking on many levels. The batter was crispy but also very, very greasy, leaving my fingertips drenched in oil each time I picked up a piece to bite into. The crispy coating was also flavorless as was the fish itself. Seasonings of the batter and the fish, if any at all were used, really needs to be kicked up a few notches...big time. So that's my review. I understand we are all entitled to an off night, but between our experience dining here, AND the new menu, I don't think...
Read moreWe came as a family of 6 on vacation to a recommended spot for locals, not tourists.
Our waitress was nice, she did nothing wrong. My daughter ordered the mac and cheese adult portion with no protein added. She couldn't even eat a third of the bowl. She stopped eating and said, "It doesn't taste like anything." I tried a bite to see if she was being dramatic, and I used a napkin to get it out of my mouth. She showed how the mac and cheese was dripping, not with cheese but with water. So, no flavor, not mixed properly, and dripping with watery liquid. We even tried salt and pepper and no dice.
The lobster bisque was scorching hot, with not 1 morsel of lobster. It was a watered-down version of tomato soup, and if I hadn't added in the crackers provided to me, it would have had zero flavor.
I had the redfish tacos. I unfortunately only tasted the garnish (pico and lemon), not the fish.
The wedge salad was great, with no complaints. I will say it's unorthodox to have to crumble up or cut the bacon yourself as it comes with two slices draped over the salad, but it tasted fine, so I won't beat a dead horse.
The cluster of crab legs were sweet and juicy, and she enjoyed them. The shrimp was great with melted butter
One last thing. In hindsight, we probably should have looked at the lack of patrons at this place and instead gone across the street to the pizza joint that was mostly busy. When we walked in, there was 1 person at the bar, and 1 guitarist on the stage playing to absolutely no one. We sat inside, and no one was in there either. This wasn't 3 in the afternoon. It was between 5 and 6 pm.
Maybe an off night, but I think we will try other establishments from now on due to some of the food not being on par with the hard earned...
