🌵 Palm Springs’ Hidden Mexican Gem – Felipe’s Palm Springs Review!

You know a place is truly great when everything is conspiring to ruin your fun and you STILL have a great time. On the day we came, the roads were being re-paved and it took us four tries to get into the parking lot. Still, we got to sit on the lovely Southern Exposure patio, with just the right amount of shade and sun to warm ourselves and sip our tasty margaritas. The waiters were patient and had a great sense of humor about the snarling traffic and honking horns. Their mood rubbed off on us...they obviously enjoy working together and make a great team. As the traffic continued they invited us to hang as long as necessary and we took advantage of the great vibe. The Food was delicious! We had the shrimp quesadilla (massive and yummy) and the enchilada de mole which was unexpectedly scrumptious. Oh!And the Mexican Rice! Rarely do I notice it, but theirs is soft and fluffy and creamy...how did they do that? Since we had time while the traffic was abating, we ordered the corn cake which is, according to the waiter, an 80-year-old family recipe. We were floored, it was less cake and more like a delicious custard. We will definitely be back and can't wait to enjoy the sun at Felipe's after the road is paved. (PS the final photo is of a meal someone else ordered, it smelled amazing and looked delicious!)

Haven't been here in a while so stopped in for Lunch. It was very busy...that's usually a good sign! I ordered a margarita on the rocks with salt...one of the better ones I've had lately, ($6). My husband ordered the torta cubana. ($15) He loved it.. he said it was a bit unusual in that there was a lot going on but in a flavorful way. I went out on a limb and ordered the torta tongue. ($17) I am spoiled by our friend Lolita's homemade preparation of tongue so I was apprehensive but I was assured that the servers there and other locals enjoy it frequently so I gave it a shot. I was not disappointed. For those of you who don't like the thought of it, I would challenge you to differentiate it from shredded beef. It was delicious and I would definitely order it again! The only disappointment in the meal was the chips.. they really didn't have any flavor.. my husband referred to them as salted cardboard...the salsa was excellent but they need to get different chips.

Highly disappointed in Felipes. It appears it keeps getting worse and worse.

We even recommend them in our Guide Book of Palm Springs.

They have been removed after tonight!

We stopped going to Felipes last year due to the quality of their food and their lack of trying to improve their standards to come close to matching the food quality at other Mexican restaurants in the area such as La Tablita Restaurant where the food is fresh and truly cooked with passion.

Felipes is trying to cater more to the alcohol and tourist customer base.

We decided to give them another chance and it was simply a terrible, terrible mistake and one that could lead to food poisoning.

I ordered the steak fajitas. While waiting for the food the chips and salsa came out and the salsa was in a small DIPPING container that the chips had to be broken to even dip into the sauce. We had to get multiple thembles trying to mask the taste of the not to mention STALE CHIPS!!!

I ordered a glass of water and a Coke.

Both our waters came out and clearly, they had only put slivers of ice that melted as soon as they sat them on the table. Listen this is Palm Springs and the temp is over 100 not to mention their air conditioning is not functioning correctly and they had a large floor fan trying to cool the place.

When my Coke came out it was flat and had no ice. They must be having trouble with their ice because of the water not having adequate ice.

Again, I informed the waiter my COKE was FLAT and there was no ice in the Coke. I watched him go behind the bar and pour a Coke from a HOT OPEN can on the counter into my glass. This violates health code operating procedures and now I know why my Coke was consistently FLAT!

As I started to eat my steak fajitas I noticed I kept crunching down on something and I could not get the crunching to go away as I chewed. I stopped and opened my fajita and started going through it I found remnants of OLD GREEZY french fries mixed in the meat!!!!! You could tell it was a FRENCH FRY!!

I immediately STOPPED eating my meal!

We called over waiter one and he appeared to be concerned and left with the evidence and did not return so we called a second waiter. He came over and we explained to him and his remark was, "You don't like french fries?" laughingly. I told him I did not find it funny that he would make a joke about a product that we were paying for that came from a dirty grill and with little concern for the safety of their guests. I did not order steak fajitas with FRENCH FRIES and that is not listed on the ingredients on your menu.

We called over the so-called manager and he said things like that happen! Shocked I said you got to be kidding. Do you know how many times I eat not in a week but in a day? Do you know how many times I have EVER found an EXTRA item in my food from various restaurants that was not supposed to be there? NEVER!

But Felipes acts as if it is a common occurrence so much they treat it as a joke! This is no joke and clearly, this needs to be resolved with them and their lack of sanitary conditions in the kitchen to ensure this DOES NOT HAPPEN so much they think it is JOKE!

Listen we owned a restaurant and understand how tough it can be but we never, ever sacrificed when it came to sanitary conditions of the kitchen by turning mistakes into a JOKE for our customers. I don't think the health department would find that funny and since Felipes states this happens often this is an area in their kitchen that needs to be investigated to ensure the health of its customers that is paramount!

Felipes has spent lots of money on the inside look of their restaurant but where they have truly failed is investing in the taste of their food which is mentioned in several reviews and sanitation issues in their kitchen to always be vigilant in maintaining and ensuring the health of their customers.

It is a shame that a restaurant has so much potential and thinks the beauty of a place takes precedence over the TASTE and SAFETY of the food their...

If I could give it zero stars I would, service was terrible since the very beginning. The hostess was very rude. Our server was also rude. We went for brunch for a friends birthday, got there a bit past 12pm got seated by 1pm a few of us wanted pancakes and waffles which aren’t available after 1pm even though brunch ends at 3pm.

The food was bland, from the sides to the main dishes. We had a few shrimp dishes & the shrimp were far from fresh. The chilaquiles were terrible. Our “hot” dishes were all cold. Food & drinks took a very long time and we were seated outside in 100+ degree weather. I had plans to get all their drink towers but we didn’t, as we just wanted to get out of there as soon as possible & go else where.

We were all terribly disappointed & dissatisfied. I truly wanted to like this place & maybe give it a try another time but after seeing the reviews it seems like it’s simply how they operate. I wish I would have seen the reviews before hand which I normally do.

I don’t recommend this place to anyone. I was embarrassed to have chosen such a terrible place for my friend’s birthday celebration brunch. However if you do decide come, be prepared to wait, you will most likely be seated outside so have that in mind, & don’t have high expectations on the food...
