I really wanted to like this place and I did but there are changes I would make. The servers are friendly enough, they just didn't seem to be very experienced but again very friendly and the orders came out correctly. My partner ordered the pork chops with the Mac & cheese and cream corn(you pick 2 sides with entree)and he enjoyed everything. I had the very misleading black bean sausage with greens, rice & gravy and an extra side of candied yams. The "sausage" was just a black bean and rice mixture that looked shaped by a cookie cutter into a couple of little circles. When the owner came to check on us, as she did every table(a very nice touch)I suggested the "sausage" just be served in a dish as a side because other guests will also likely be disappointed thinking they will get something that they won't. Everything I had was really good however the yams are very very sweet. I also ordered the peach cobbler which was the pie cobbler and not the cake cobbler consistency(IYKYK)it was also good but I would have appreciated a better presentation and it being warmed throughout. I won't say the price point is too high (about $22 a person)but at the current level I believe the cornbread should come with an entree. This may be nitpicky but being able to hear the staff talking in the kitchen from the dining area was not the vibe. Overall I will return to this place because the valley definitely needs food diversity and I love supporting small and Black businesses. I am rooting for this one to succeed in order to make the...
Read moreAbsolutely the worst restaurant I've ever been to! What they call soul food totally misses the mark (we're from the south many years ago). We ordered chicken legs and fried pork chops. They came out COLD in less than 5 minutes, meaning they were sitting in the kitchen for who knows how long. The two legs were tiny, shriveled imitations of real legs and totally tasteless. And turns out they were bad, as my partner still has severe food poisoning 18 hours later. The two pork chops were cold, tasteless, tiny and about 1/4 inch thick. No meat at all, all bone. The collard greens were actually ok but cold. The Mac & Cheese was a cold, gummy mess, probably right out of a box with a feeble attempt to improve it. Corn bread was ice cold and horrible too. Rice and gravy was extra cold and truly tasteless as well. They were out of sweet tea so we ordered Kool Aid. It came out in tiny six ounce glasses and when we asked for a refill the owner SHOUTED at the waiter.......NO REFILLS! The owner seems to be a real idiot. I hear their breakfast is good but I truly doubt that based on our experience. Please go absolutely anywhere other than this horrible,...
Read moreDon't know where y'all came from, but don't ever leave here! The first Soul Food restaurant that I've been to in years that left me wanting more. The portions were reasonable, as were the prices. I enjoyed the fried chicken, which was perfectly seasoned. I also had candied yams, macaroni, baked beans, and, of course, the greens. Now, I admit that I prefer a bit more ham hock in my greens, but the flavor was on point. They were not overcooked or dried out. For dessert, I had the peach cobbler, which did not come with ice cream and yet somehow was still everything that I needed. I highly recommend it. The painstaking work to prepare my meal was evident. For that is what I appreciated most. I'm certain that I...
