One of the best designed city parks I've seen... first, there is a major issue within tha park, the city, county county and the world in general. A large part of the homeless population resides in the park throughout the day and night. With this and the misguided shift towards criminalization of people who are poor, homeless, and multiple forms of disenfranchisement from what this country had perpetuated itself to be the is a perception and a real issue with crime, drugs abuse, unsafe and unhealthy hotspots throughout the park and everywhere in every city I've been. This helps bring a spiraling cycle that seems to get worse with police spending large amounts of time devoted to the area, often targeting specific individuals and profiling individuals based on appearance, clothing etc. It really seems that we are slipping backwards as a society towards a feudal society similar to a thousand years ago with serfs and peasants fighting for scraps in the land which they seem to have no connection to, ownership or stewardship towards and seemingly a future that appears more dismal than the present. This makes this park, the way we live and interact within society and our overall sense is safety, security and general, economic, physical and mental become weekend and the cycle continues into a self fulfilling professy. We can, we have and we must do better for our species survival. We are all we've got. There's no one else who can or will do it for us. Just starting with this amazing example of designing public space to include so many elements of ways fo benefit everyone nearby and the greater community in general can and should help fulfill what seems to have been a main goal of the concept and design that went into creating this local city park. It's as distinctive and important as the modern design and living the entirety of one's life worth the resources available to reach some of our greatest potentials. All in this small little town in the desert. Come on people, seriously, there's more than enough money, knowledge and ability to bring our entire community up to basic health and wellbeing... the problem and the solution is the fact that we're all just people. It's about all we've got to know in this life.
Sorry for preaching. We should, can and are able to do everything that can and should be done, with what we've got on hand... life isn't easy but it's what we've got, and what else is there to do in this little town. It's better than most the restaurants and watching the same local news on every channel all day long.
Anyway,, check out the amazing amount of options located within the park. Seriously, a koi pond in the middle of the public library, not to mention the structures' design and use of natural light, wood and concrete. It's so serene it could've been designed as a place of worship. Skate park, public pool with water heated or cooled to maintain a constant temperature year round, or a minor league baseball team and stadium... and if you don't know where to start, there's the recreation center, staffed fulltime to help you discover the many recreational options within the park, city, Coachella valley and southern California in general. It's almost ridiculous yet amazing that so many resources where included and are stronger than ever within one basic public space. Utilize it, enjoy or and help it to thrive and expand to its ever changing opportunities and potential. It really is one of the real gems of the city and shows what it's designers, the government and the citizens of the city believed when it was built and opened. That we are all here to grow, learn and enjoy this beautiful spot hidden in the nook of these mountains, on the edge of the desert and near, or often in competition to be on the of warmest places on earth. They made what could be a place inhospitable for most life... and those early generations have this landmark to allow us and this area to thrive beyond all expectations but simply having so many institutions and structures that are dedicated to enhancing all...
Read moreI was asked to rate the park another time but there haven't been any significant changes since the last time I was there the park is definitely cleaner and has fewer homeless then it used to have. The baseball season has started now so the Palm Springs power are playing there and it's kept very well maintained in my opinion and I feel much safer than I did in it then I did a few years ago Sunrise park is in the heart of the city at Sunrise and Ramon. The park included the library, the Mizell Senior Center, The boys and girls club, the Baseball field which is used for many different events and then also a lot of grass areas which at one time were full of many homeless individuals that also included a criminal element. The city has cleaned up the park and for awhile had a trailer located there for the police department to be active on the property. Because of it's location this park is used by thousands of city residents. It is located just a few blocks from Palm Springs High School and many senior care centers, Also an area with many shopping and...
Read moreDirtier some more than not with trash and good for no litter from the animals, grass has been some dry but the power games should start getting a grander hour really looks underrated still so we will be attending some times this could be better adhering to maintaining less than resorting to city calls not to have too much going on to the call for employment to do so but I do think just being somewhere anyone should take it upon themselves to find their trip to be more cleanly respectful and contribute the responsibility to the grounds of the city as beautifully natured and not big enough for the trash to have a...
