Joey B's — Restaurant in Palmerton

I'm very disappointed. We took my parents out to eat, and my mom and I were very excited about their festive drinks. We sat, ordered 4 drinks which took about 10 minutes, as it usually does because they are very nice drinks and take time. Understandable. We ordered 3 appetizers (5 wings, fries, mozz sticks), and we waited until the appetizers came to the table to order our meal. The waitress came two minutes before those came to ask for our order, we said we'd wait until appetizers came, appetizers came, then we ordered. It was only a matter of 5 minutes, so that is no excuse for what came later. Personally in the past, we would receive our dinner in the middle of appetizers, which is very unenjoyable, so we waited those five extra minutes. We got our meals except for my mother who ordered a pizza, which came after the three of us were finished with our meal. I understand that the pizzas take longer, but again, that doesn't justify what they did later. So we get boxed up, and Autum comes to the table with the bill and asks if we want dessert, which we did but we wanted to wait 5 minutes to look at the dessert menu. Immediately we could tell she wasn't happy. We wanted to order dessert martinis (sugar cookie, peanut butter, cookie butter--what my mom was looking forward to). Autum said we only had until 7:45, and it was about 7:24. We said we would order them and be out by 7:45, which is so wrong for any restaurant to say to customers. When she came back to take our order, she said she can't serve us because our time runs out at 7:30, not 7:45. Anyways, we were very upset about this. The owner offered for us to have free drinks at the bar, but that didn't matter one bit to us.

We were rushed, and to only give customers 1.5 hours to get drinks, appetizers, dinner (which came out late), and dessert...is impossible to fit that into an hour and a half. It's wrong.

Clearly they prefer quantity of people coming in over giving a quality experience. Money is the root of all evil.

I know the owner is going to comment below and be really nasty like he is in all of the other comments. Businesses make mistakes. Own up to it and admit it, but don't shame people for giving an...

Update 2/27

Since my first review, I have decided to give Joey B's another chance. Quick Summary: Excellent beer selection As noted previously, the soup is ALWAYS amazing Average to below average meal (similar to previous review) This location has one waitress available that reads out specials whereas another waitress will come by to take your order. If you wanted to know the specials again, they will need to bring back the other waitress.

Longer Summary: We arrived during the end of the week and there was a small wait time which is normal for Joey B's. We were seated after waiting ~15 minutes, which is normal. I was amazed to see they had Cigar City Jai Alai on their beer list since it was one of my favorite beers. One waitress read the specials to us whereas another took our order. We wanted to hear the specials again and our current waitress did not know them so they had to go back to the other waitress to have her read them off. We ordered the seafood bisque as appetizer which was delicious and for our meals, we ordered the shrimp taco and the seared ahi tuna salad. The shrimp taco was average and there was really nothing exciting about it. In our opinion, the taco was overpriced for what we received. The ahi tuna salad was cooked perfectly but under seasoned. Overall we felt the meal was average for what we ended up paying. I would recommend Joey B's if you are looking for an extensive beer list, their amazing soup and great pizza. 3-stars though due to value recognition for other items on the menu.

Old Review:

Food is average and staff are extremely friendly. The location has a nice “old school vibe” and the outside sitting area is charming. Their soup is excellent however, the food is average and way over priced. There are better local options such as West End Saloon or One Ten Tavern. Large beer list.

Update 12/21 Based on owners response, will try this location again and update review. In addition, I have provided updates on both Yelp (2-3x times the reviews on Google) and Google for all other local establishments that we have frequented. Will bump the star count...

After hearing great things about this restaurant we decided to celebrate 3 birthdays Sat March 5. Two couples with 3 of us having a birthday all that week. We were greeted by whom I assume may have been the owner and through conversation told him we chose this place to celebrate. He stated his birthday was March 1. We all wished him a Happy Birthday. I understand being passed over for seating until the party of all (4) arrives. Serves was very good and food came out quickly. As fast as we finished dinner we were ask if we were ready for our check. Once we said no, we are not in any hurry another woman came over to us and ask if we could move to the bar due to a line out the door. Stunned by the request we all just looked at each thinking we all haven't seen each other since Christmas and since dinner was over hoping to enjoy conversation with a few more drinks. Upon not saying anything for that brief moment she ask again. The wife of the couple we were with stated I guess so. After being seated at the bar the same woman who ask us to leave stated "it's more fun at the bar anyway". Not sure how because I ended only talking with my girlfriend for the night while my husband sat 2 seats away from me talking to his right the whole night with my friends husband. So it really wasn't the evening we had planned. Now one might think maybe they could have offered a free round of drinks for the inconvenience but no. Although us 2 women only had a drink each while our husbands drank for the evening we ended up with a $110 bill and did stay from 6:15pm until 9:45pm. Looking back on it after my husband & I got home we should have said no, we were paying customers just like the next round of people. I have never in my life been ask to leave my table once I arrived. I will give this place one more try. If this happens again I'm done giving them...
