The food was a hit and miss. This is suppose to be a Peruvian n Japanese restaurant. We order 6 plates. The classic ceviche was a huge disappointment. It looks like they water down there lime juice for the ceviche to get more out of it. And it just didn't taste right at all like a traditional Peruvian ceviche. The Lomo Salteado tasted like they just put soy sauce all over the meat and mixed it, and didnt taste like a lomo salteado at all. My son left it. So we took out the meat out of it to try to remove the sauce on it so our little can eat it. The Asia roll that was recommended had a weird taste with a weird sauce on it that i couldn't stand the smell to eat it. The manager came to the table and asked what happened and we explained we didn't like how it tasted and smell of it. She offered if we wanted a coffee which my wife accepted. The manager still charged for the food we left which in all honesty it's not worth the $30 each plate it was. They shouldnt call this a part of Peruvian flavors because nothing tasted like it , not even close to it. If any customer that you can clearly see the food was left behind than they should of removed it off the receipt but regardless we paid. Also we were a party of 6 and they tried to sit us in table that fits 4 only. So when the food came my older son got an extra table and added it to where we were sitting to be able to eat with more room. The Green dragon roll, California roll and Ceviche Carretillero were good but nothing to really brag about. This was a big miss overall. Unfortunately very...
Read moreLast night, my wife and I dined at Sokai Sushi in The Hammocks (Kendall) for the first time. Nestled in an inviting and cozy space, the restaurant provided a refreshing dining experience without the usual blaring Reggaeton music typical of many South Florida establishments. The ambiance was pleasant, setting the stage for what promised to be a memorable evening.
The food was undoubtedly the highlight of our visit. For appetizers, I enjoyed the Salmon Coquito, while my wife savored the Ceviche—both were exceptional and perfectly balanced in flavor. As for the sushi, I ordered the Asia Roll, which did not disappoint. Each bite was a delightful experience for the palate, showcasing the restaurant’s dedication to fresh, well-crafted dishes. I would wholeheartedly recommend these menu items to anyone seeking high-quality sushi and appetizers in Miami.
However, despite the culinary excellence, the service fell short of expectations. While the staff was polite, the attentiveness and efficiency that elevate a dining experience were noticeably lacking. This detracted from the overall experience and left room for improvement in customer care.
Sokai Sushi offers outstanding food and an inviting atmosphere, but the service must rise to the same level of excellence for the restaurant to truly shine. For these reasons, I’d rate it no higher than 4 stars. With some attention to service, Sokai Sushi has the potential to be a top-tier dining...
Read moreFirstly, it is way too small for its britches. This is not the restaurant's fault, but it did encumber the experience seeing as it was an hour's wait to seat a party of seven, all of which was spent outside in a mosquito-laden plaza. I do not dock points for situations like these, but it is not ideal. I would recommend going to this establishment with a maximum of four people.
I ordered pork gyoza and pork belly buns (not called bao?) for an appetizers as well as the peach bellini tea, served hot. All were delectable, especially the buns, which were dripping in tangy sauce and were also seasoned and topped with hyper-thin onions. If your value system allows for the ingestion of pork, please do not pass up the buns. It is worth its weight in platinum.
After appetizers came the entree, my choice being the 'Crispy Chicken a la Huancaina'. It was a breast of chicken breaded and sliced atop a bed of jade rice, peppers and edamame beans. I was given spicy mayo to add onto it as I pleased. The chicken was indeed crispy, though I have to wonder if it was overcooked seeing as I had a hard time chewing through the meat and bread itself. It was a pleasurable entree, but the stringiness felt too encumbering to fully sink into it. We had Thai donuts for dessert, which were good as they sound.
Overall, it is a good time for some food. I enjoyed the experience, the service was as patient and reasonable as could be expected. I...
