Checkers — Restaurant in Palmetto

Was just at this checkers location at 10:20pm tonight and was extremely dissatisfied! I go to pull into this Checker’s only entrance and there’s a huge semi truck delivering to them with their unloading ramp blocking over 80% of the drive thru so no cars can pull in. A car that was right in front of me with a large lifted up SUV winds up jumping the tall curb so they could pull in, but I drive a small Toyota Camry which is much lower to the ground, so there’s no way I’d be able to jump curb.

But I go ahead and give checkers the benefit of the doubt knowing that it’s not really their fault their delivery truck decided to do that, so I went ahead and parked in the parking lot, and went walking up to the “walk up” window to order there instead. Upon getting there I see a white sheet of printer paper written on with messy sharpie handwriting saying I quote “Close to Training” which I assume meant they had the walk up window closed due to training, even though that doesn’t make any sense to me why they couldn’t run a window because of that.

But regardless I finally get one of the workers attention at the window and he gestures and says “closed”. I then very calmly and nicely say, ok but I can’t pull in because of the semi. In which he rudely flails his arms and says “well they pulled in” pointing to the big SUV, I then say I’m in a low to the ground car and my car can’t jump the curb. He then just looks at me and shrugs his shoulders.

I go ahead and just start walking away slowly, still trying to compute in my brain the lack of common sense especially since there’s only the one car in the drive thru, and they’re already sitting at the pick up window.

Then I kid you not less than 5 secs after me walking away, not even to my car yet, the semi truck driver walks up and gets helped, and places his order at the window. It’s such a slap in the face and at this point I don’t know what to do other than to pick another fast food establishment that will express at least a rudimentary level of common sense and...

Today, September 5th at around 5:15pm i go checkers and pull into the second drive through line. I pull up and am greeted and asked to place my order. I place my order then the worker tells me she was just informed that the lane needs to be closed for a food truck delivery and asks me to back up and go to the other lane. I respond i cant back up bc there are cars behind me but i can pull up to the window. Thinking nothing of it, I wait for the car at the window to receive their order and they get their food and pull off. I pull up and the manager comes to the window and tells me (quite rudely and without apology) “you gonna have to go to the other lane, i only have one cashier and i need to close this lane.” Now to get in the other drive through lane at checkers in Palmetto means you have to drive back into traffic, wait at the light, make a right turn on 10th then turn back into Checkers. No way I'm doing that especially since i had been treated so rudely for a problem THEY CAUSED. So of course i declined and told her, i am not doing that, she closed the window and walked off, still no apology for having me waste time sitting in a drive through that she decided to close WITH CARS IN THE DRIVE THROUGH. I took my business elsewhere. What kind of business closes a drive through lane while customers are in the lane!!!! The proper process CHECKERS is to place cones in the lane so no one else drives up BUT ALSO SERVE THE PEOPLE WHO ARE ALREADY IN THE LANE AND THAT HAVE BEEEN WAITING. Absolute garbage! I have given this location a chance on SEVERAL occasions and they fail ALL expections on every level, miserably! They obviously do not care who they hire as customer service is ATROCIOUS and management isn't any better! This store should not be in business, PERIOD!! I have called corporate and the complaint line on this store to no avail which is clear confirmation that checker's as a company DOES NOT CARE ABOUT IT'S CUSTOMERS! Generally speaking all checkers are dives and dumps but this location is about the worst! Long wairs, illiterate and rude workers, consistent WRONG ORDERS and the list goes on and on. Bottom line: SAVE YOUR MONEY AND YOUR SANITY AND AVOID THIS STORE IN PALGHETTO LIKE THE PLAGUE!! *Btw the generic, superficial responses made by mgmt to so MANY of the same complaints are a joke and further confirmation that you could careffingless! Just pathetic! I advise ANYONE reading this review to just PLEASE CALL CORPORATE until this location is shut down as no one paying their hard earned money for something to eat deserves this ridiculous experience!!
