I have never posted a review before but this restaurant was so inexcusably bad that it warrants me taking time out of my day to review.
As the last stop on our weekend trip to Palo Alto we heard nothing but great things about this restaurant. HOW WRONG EVERYONE WAS.
After sitting down for dinner, the inattentive staff decided to ignore our table not coming over even once after first delivering our drinks, until they silently threw the food on the table. The waiter brought the check and silently placed it on the table never asking how everything was or if we needed anything. Meanwhile, the staff took it upon themselves to flirt with a table full of girls at a nearby table instead of attending to us and other restaurant goers.
AS FOR THE FOOD:
The chicken tostadas tasted as if they had defrosted it a week ago, sour dry putrid chicken with microwaved dry rice and beans that tasted like it was cooked last summer.
I wouldn’t feed this food to my dogs if we were all starving simply inedible and disgusting excuse for Mexican food.
ALL IN ALL:
I wouldn’t recommend this restaurant to my worst enemy. Not only was the food inedible, overpriced and disgusting, the staff only seemed attentive to other guests who spoke Spanish and had no interest in any of the guests who did not.
AVOID THIS OVERPRICED INEDIBLE GARBAGE...
Read moreGreat intimate atmosphere...the lighting is low and the candles on the tables are a great touch. Food is pretty damn good, bested only slightly by its sister, Vive Sol in Mountain View. Chips and assorted salsas here are a thoughtful touch which sets this place apart from the other Mexican restaurants I've frequented. Beer here is thoughtfully served in chilled pint glasses...bravo! Flour tortillas here are textureless, not warmed, and lack flavor. And they only give you two tiny tortillas with your meal...at least you can ask for more. I found the servers to be prompt, attentive, and (sadly) gloomy both times I was here.
DISH MINI REVIEWS: -Chicken serano - excellent sour-cream based sauce with chicken and onions. My favorite dish here. -Chicken enjococado - not quite as good as Vive Sol's but still great -Chicken fajitas - above average, not as good as fajitas had at Taqueria Tlaquepaque -Chicken mole poblano - tasty, although this is a mild dish which lacks zip in the spice department. These minor criticisms aside, the food is well above average, the atmosphere is wonderful, and the...
Read moreThis is a great Mexican place to dine on California Street. With that street closed for Al fresco dining, there are plenty of parking spots available in the adjacent streets with a free parking garage as well. I went there with my family on a Thursday evening for dinner. The place was relatively full and it was easy to get a table. We got ourselves Chicken Chalupas, Enchiladas Al Chipotle with chicken and Camarones a la diabla. The delivery was quite fast with the chalupas arriving within 10 minutes. There were 3 chalupas there and each tasted unique in its own flavor. The enchiladas were usual as I would expect them to be with chipotle sauce. The highlight of the dinner was the Shrimp dish with quite a kick of spicyness. For people with less interest in spicy food, this dish might not be for you. However, I liked it a lot and tasted quite unlike anything I have tried in Mexican cuisine. Overall, this place is a must try and we had great experience...
