This hotel isn’t much to look at from the outside, but is adorably decorated from the inside. No pool or free breakfast, but who cares - I never utilize either anywhere I stay. The room comes equipped with a sound machine to drown out outside noise (pretty cool!) and a huge TV. There is also a retro refrigerator, microwave, coffee maker, and iron. No blow dryer. Free parking!!! SUPER CLEAN. Keyless entry - you use the palm of your hand and key in some numbers to unlock the door. If you need anything, just text and you will be promptly answered by the virtual assistant who will then send a human with your request. I stayed 7 full days. They will charge you a $75.00 fee if you want your sheets changed before the end of your stay. No thank you! It seemed like anytime you requested anything, they wanted to charge you for it; however, I told them if you charge me for this roll of toilet paper I’m asking for, you have another thing coming. I just had a partial nephrectomy a few months ago, so I drink and urinate a lot. My handicapped shower leaked quite a lot, so I always had to request extra towels to wipe the floor up! After I explained things, I was never charged extra for anything. I told them my son attends a university that cost over $76,000 a year, and I can afford my own towels and toilet paper at home - rest assured these requested items were being used for what I claimed they were being used for and not stuffed into the one tiny overhead suitcase I brought along with me. My son attends Stanford and it’s literally a 5 minute drive away - very convenient location!! This was my second stay here. I visit my son at least twice a year, and this is going to always be my go-to hotel. I was sad that the last manager, an African American guy named Chris, wasn’t there anymore. I could really tell the difference in management style between the two visits to this hotel. Chris made you feel like a queen. I always saw him outside walking around making sure the guests were comfortable and well-taken care of. I couldn’t tell you who the manager is here now. It’s all virtual, so you don’t know; however, Chris always made himself present outside and would talk to his customers to make sure everything...
Read moreDangerously wired. The air conditioner and the bathroom light seemed to be on the same switch, somehow. Whenever the AC compressor kicked on, the bathroom light turned on. When the AC turned off, the bathroom light turned off. This suggests shoddy, dangerous wiring.
There is no front desk--our room was in what would normally be the lobby, but there is no lobby in any meaningful sense because check in and check out is all done via cell phone. There were people wandering in and out all night looking for the desk.
The room itself was pretty clearly an office (or something) at one point. There was a phone and cable jack on every wall. There was no security lock and no deadbolt on the door--if someone had the code to the room they could get in, and the code was sent via text message. There was no way to lock the room from the inside. We felt super unsafe, and I wouldn't leave anything in the room while not there. At night, we moved the desk to block the door, and based on the marks on the wall, others had done the same thing before. There was a boarded up crevice in the wall in the bathroom that seemed to lead to the room next door, and we could hear people on the other side. The walls are paper thin.
The room itself is basically just a mattress in a room. There are no tables by the bed, and no real seating other than a flimsy chair. We had to put duct tape up along the curtain to keep the room dark, as there is a bright florescent light right outside the window that stays on all night, and the curtains don't fully cover the window.
Under no circumstances would I stay here again. There are so many other similarly priced hotels in Palos Altos, and all of the rest of them offer actual human service, normal wiring, and sensible placement. If you're looking for a good place to stay, find another place--Creekside Inn down the street is the same price and MUCH nicer; we switched to there after initially staying here. It is baffling that this motel is so...
