Pepe’s in Hickory Hills has a daily buffet from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. for about $12.99 per person and around $3.99 for a fountain drink. It really is one of the best deals around. The buffet is on the smaller side, but the selections are solid. They have taco bowls so you can build your own taco salad, plus corn and flour tortillas and hard shells. There are simple options like ground beef and some family friendly items, and their Mexican dishes, especially the guisadas, have great flavor. The steak and chicken fajitas use quality meat and are seasoned well.
Their chicken soup was excellent. I added a little rice from the buffet and a squeeze of lime and it hit the spot. They offer horchata as a drink option. Refills on that are not included, but fountain drink refills are.
They also have a small dessert and fruit section with fresh fruit, pudding, different salads, and delicious buñuelos. If you ask, they will even bring out chocolate dipping sauce for your strawberries.
The one thing I wish they had were labels or small descriptions by each item, maybe on the side or above the guard. It was the only part that slowed me down. The good thing is that their team members are quick to help and happy to explain anything you are unsure about, so there is still a very easy workaround.
The service was great, the restaurant was clean, and the buffet stayed stocked the whole time. The atmosphere was calm, and I was able to get what I needed without feeling rushed. I enjoyed it so much that I am taking my whole family back.
It is a smaller buffet, so keep that in mind, but for the price, it is an amazing value. If you are in Hickory Hills between 10 and 3, it is definitely worth...
Read moreSome years ago this place had some good specials at the bar like half price Long island night and half price margarita night. After about a year of being a pretty regular customer at the drink special nights and ordering tacos to share while at the bar for a good time at a great price, they actually switched from delicious hand crafted drinks to these terrible premixed things with very little booze. It turned me off, I've been there maybe only 1-3 times since 2013. Yesterday, I went there with my family and got the buffet. It's normally 8.99 but it's 6.99 if you order a beverage they had domestic beers for 2.25 and the kids menu was nice for 5.49 a meal and it included Oreos or Teddy grahms at the end. One of my kids ordered cheese SAUCE with her nachos and got the melted cheese option by mistake. I asked if we could just have a side of the cheese sauce because we were in a hurry, but they made her her correct order lickity split. It was Sunday so they were busy with large families and the buffet was jumping but our waitress was ON POINT. Football was on all the big TV's in the area where they were seating the bigger groups too. For $50 I fed a family of five and got 3 beers. Amazing improvements. I'd...
