Sammie's Cafe & Pancake House — Restaurant in Palos Township

I read the reviews when I came in and y’all were lying. No wait, breakfast food took 30 minutes to come out. Just for the order to be wrong, and cold. My mom was already eating off the plate nd she took her plate and said she gave her the wrong order and brought back a different plate that was cold food as well. My pancakes and waffles were over cooked. But cold. I feel like my food was sitting in the window waiting. They were too busy doing Togo orders. We ordered hash browns. Everywhere else I order hash browns and it don’t come with onions this place gave me onions in my hash browns. There was a onion on my pancakes. We ordered cheese on our hash browns and they forgot to put it on and the lady grabbed our plates to bring them to the back and they threw a nice cold piece of cheese on the hash browns. I woulda have told her it was ok couldn’t hear me screaming it’s ok. Bacon wasn’t the way we wanted it cooked when ask for crispy bacon. Eggs were cold. Cold eggs are the worst food ever. Both our over medium and scrambled. Nice waitress took off my mother breakfast. So I tipped her 45%. ALSO. With all this Covid, we went to wash our hands and the soap water. No bubbles nothing. Didn’t feel like my hands got clean

It's Monday, 10/17 8:40 am, I walked in, no one was at the register, no big deal. A family of 5 was in front of me. They proceeded to walk in and go to a table to sit down. ( I'm assuming they are regular customers). The waitress came out, she happily greeted them but when she came to the register to attend to me, she was soooo dry. I didn't get a GOOD MORNING, NO SMILE AT ALL. She simply said, WHAT CAN I GET FOR YOU as she looked down onto the pad ready to write down what I wanted. She never made eye contact at all. Her demeanor towards ME was dry, and unprofessional. I am a big tipper for not only great food, but wonderful service. My pancakes were not good. They tasted gritty and undercooked (McDonald's pancakes taste better.) The eggs tasted as though the cheddar cheese in the eggs were freezer-burned This was my first time here and the impression and service were not good. To be fair, I watched the waitress interact with the next round of customers and she was overly kind and engaging to them. I guess the way I looked did not deserve to be greeted with kindness. You never know who will walk into your restaurant, a celebrity or anybody. Nevertheless, EVERYONE SHOULD BE TREATED FAIRLY. So sad, times have changed but then again, ...

I used to really enjoy coming to this restaurant. The food was consistently tasty and it was one of my favorite breakfast spots. It's been several months since I've been to Sammie's and unfortunately, my most recent visit was a big disappointment. I ordered the biscuits and gravy with sausage, which used to be a favorite of mine, but this time it was bland, barely hot, and the sausage tasted off—almost like it had been reheated or wasn’t fresh. My sister got the Philly steak skillet and couldn’t even finish it because she said it lacked flavor. We both ended up boxing up most of our meals, which says a lot. We spent $60 before tip, and honestly, it just wasn’t worth it. Something has definitely changed here,whether it's the recipes, ingredients, or kitchen staff, I don’t know,but the quality and flavor that used to set this place apart just aren’t there anymore.
