Just tried Das Rookhaus for the very first time today. I went in with no expectations and an open mind. I decided to try my standby roast beef sub as you can't really mess it up as it's a pretty standard sub. I decided to forgo any substitutions and ordered it as listed (roast beef, smoked swiss, shredded lettuce, tomato, and horseradish spread). I also ordered a cheese nibbler to sample their various cheeses (because I love cheese). I decided to take it home instead of eat in so I can't speak for the dining area. I typically avoid cash only places since I don't like to carry cash but I am learning that some of the best hidden gems around here are cash only so I'm warming up to this trend. And I have to say, Das Rookhaus makes one hell of a roast beef sub. The flavor is phenomenal. The roast beef is smoky and juicy. Not dry at all. I'm not a big fan of shredded lettuce as most sub places Subway load the sub with lettuce to pad it out. There was just enough lettuce in the sandwich to give it a crunch without muting the flavors of the ingredients. The horseradish spread was pretty tame but delightfully tangy. I expected a little more heat but it still works as a great mayonnaise substitute. I don't know if they make it in-house or if it is produced by someone but I want a bottle of it. The cheese nibbler was the perfect accompaniment to the sub. The cheese is perfectly smoked. The swiss (my least favorite of sandwich cheeses) is probably the best I've had. Not too sharp and a lot of good smoke flavor. The pepperjack is pretty decent too. I've had better but I've also had way worse. The cheddar was pretty mild but the smokiness really hit the pallet in a good way. I don't know who their cheese supplier is but their product is fantastic. My only regret was not ordering a side of pickles. Will have to do that next time as it was sorely missed. I can't recommend this place enough. The prices aren't as high as I was led to believe and the quality more than justifies the slightly higher bump in price. This was definitely a $6 sub and I will be back to...
Read moreThe Dagwood was sooo good! Best sub sandwich I've had thus far from any sub shop, including all major well known sub shops. I haven't tried any other sandwich or food from Dad Rookhaus, but the flavor of the Dagwood was excellent, it wasn't the least but dry but rather juicy with flavor. Anyone who fancies a uniquely made Dagwood sandwich must give this one a go. I plan on making this place a mainstay on the foodie list and will continue trying menu items. I have heard the owner has been with this business for over forty years so that speaks for itself. Give it a go and support your local business owners in the process, you...
Read moreThis used to be a great place to get subs but not anymore. I ordered a Dagwood (cold cuts) not toasted with extra mayo. They put the extra mayo on the bun, toasted the meats & then put the hot meat on the mayo which melted so it was a soggy mess. There was also shredded cheese on it that wasn't ordered. The lettuce is shredded too fine making it watery. The tomatoes are sliced paper thin. I guess to cut costs. The last few times I ordered from here have been a real...
