Astonishingly rude and unprofessional behavior. Didn’t actually get my meal, but I offered to pay for the side salad I did eat because I could not wait any longer and was treated like trash and overcharged for a full salad. The people working there seem very easily angered. I had a much better experience at the Southside Diner and Ruma’s. Food and service was great at both those locations.
ETA a response: So let’s get a fuller picture. Thank you for admitting your waitress was informed of a time constraint and chose to lie about what your kitchen is able to produce. I didn’t say I had a 30 minute lunch, I asked if I could be out the door in 30 minutes. I specifically asked about the time to determine if I would eat in, take out, or simply leave. Call it intuition. A 30 minute lunch service is a normal time in the industry. I’m not sure why you don’t think it is. If your business is to cater to retirees who go to restaurants to socialize and don’t care if they are there for 3 hours or when their food comes out, you should specify that. There is nothing wrong with that, you should just be upfront about it and so should your staff. Or maybe don’t open for lunch.
Within the first few minutes, I had my order in and salad delivered. Everything was good. Then the waitress didn’t return to my table until about 20 minutes later after she finally looked my way. It’s not a big dining area and you weren’t busy. I asked about the food to see if there was maybe a problem and it would be best to cancel or just box it up. If it was close, I was going to have her box it up but she interrupted me, angrily, and told me it would be soon, then walked away back to her favorite table. She was mad and she made sure I knew. She didn’t even check with the kitchen. When it got to the 30 minute mark, I got her attention and told her I needed to leave and before I could finish the sentence telling her to just box up the food, she immediately turned on her heel and complained to the floor manager about me loud enough I and everyone else in the diner could hear. I was still seated at the table listening to this in absolute astonishment when someone came out of the kitchen with a plate and she brought it over and dropped it on the table like I was her husband and she was ready for a divorce. She stared at me in silence then said something to the effect of “there’s your food” like a challenge and that was when I had enough. I told her to take it back, I would pay for the salad, and I was leaving immediately. I got up and walked to the register as she stomped back over to the floor manager. And still, I had to wait at the register while they both made ignorant remarks and the entire place was looking at me. Your floor manager had no intention of smoothing anything over. She had ample opportunity. In fact, it was apparent that this toxic behavior is encouraged by management since she joined in. So no, I didn’t “storm out” so fast that you didn’t have time to not charge me. That’s a stupid claim. It’s really hard to wait at a register, pay for a salad, AND quickly storm out so fast you can’t not do something you just did. So, other than astonishing inappropriate behavior worthy of a reality show, we can add bad liar to this establishment’s resume.
Now, I’ll say this much, had your waitress not acted like a spoiled teenager asked to take the trash out and had your floor manager handled this like a professional, I likely would have walked out of your establishment, still late to my work, but with a box of food. Your waitress would have gotten her 20%, the restaurant would have sold a plate, and, provided the food was good, I would have come back at dinner time to give it a second chance or, at worst, relegated this to a dinner-only restaurant. But you didn’t. You didn’t even take enough time to compose an appropriate response. You have a toxic environment and it shows. Given how empty it was during the height of the lunch hour, I suspect a lot of people...
Read moreI'm coming back now 3 months later to edit my review. I'm not changing my 5 star review because I believe every business is entitled to a rough day but this was really rough.
I went in, excited to have breakfast with my son because we had such a great experience last time but unfortunately we held our expectations too high. Our server was delightful, prompt, and honestly over-worked. My coffee came out nice and hot and after stirring my cream and sugar I pulled out my spoon which was accompanied by a lovely black hair (my son and I are both blonde, so it didn't belong to us.) Our server apologized and got me a new coffee but it was hard to drink it after that thought. My son could eat a stack of pancakes in 30 seconds flat if I let him but he took about 4 bites and couldn't finish them. He said they didn't taste right. My omelette was somehow cold in the center. We ordered a plate of biscuits and gravy to share and the dish was cold, not even warm. Again, our server apologized and took the plate to have them remade. Unfortunately, she or the kitchen staff forgot about it and we ended up saying nevermind and she kindly removed them from our bill.
This was the first bad encounter I've had there and I hate to write only bad things but like I said, this was really bad... One thing after another.
All that being said, we will still probably go back but maybe after this experience is out of our immediate memory. The front door ladies are always pleasant. The servers are always great. Food is usually very typical of diner quality. Give them a try but maybe not...
Read moreWe were seated promptly (although the popularity of this place leads to a short wait depending on when you get there). They have a huge menu & serve breakfast, lunch & dinner all day! If you don't know what you want, I suggest narrowing down your choices before you get there by looking at the menu online so that you can order more quickly.
I wouldn't bring a group larger than 4. From what we saw, most tables could only accommodate groups of 4 or fewer. Then again we only saw the front, so maybe there is additional seating in the back. Very family friendly. There were people of all ages there -families with older kids, younger kids, older couples, and younger groups. The restaurant was in good condition and clean as well.
Service was excellent! Right when we were seated, our server took our drink order. She kept my coffee full the entire time we were there. We never felt like we were waiting for her to come by. Food was also delivered within a reasonable amount of time. We expected a longer wait considering how busy it was.
We ordered the Mediterranean omelette & the farmer's skillet. The portions were very generous for the price! The omelette came with hash browns (chunky) or home fries (shredded); both came with toast. The food is heavy on the butter/oil, but I think that's what you'd want from a breakfast place like this. Regardless, it was all very delicious! People around us ordered other items from the menu (oatmeal, eggs Benedict, pancakes, French toast) and were also very satisfied.
We will definitely...
