I hate to do this review because I was really rooting for this place, but I have to be honest. I’m asian american, just moved from NYC and frequent chinese take outs if my own family doesn’t make it. I say this to say that I’m basing my review in comparison to other chinese restaurant that has good food.

I saw their FB post just before Chinese New Year, so I sent my hubby to buy almost $100 of food day of. First let me say the place is clean and pretty.

Here’s the breakdown: Crab Rangoon - 1/5 Most of mine didn’t even have any crab imitation inside. It was just a teaspoon’s worth of cream and it was too much sugar and so sweet, which isn’t normal.

Shrimp Roll - 1/5 I posted a photo of white shrimp rolls usually look like in comparison to what they got. I wrongfully assumed that it would be a shrimp spring roll like others, but it’s actually shrimp eggroll, which is basically their egg roll with very heavy dough and a few small shrimps inside.

Egg roll - 2/5 Their egg roll shell is so dense, so it’s more chewy than crunchy. It also was mostly dough than filling. It was already cold when we ate it, and the drive was only 3 mins.

Vegetable spring roll - 2/5 Their spring roll wrap was fine. The issue was the filling inside was so minimum.

Fried Chicken Wings - 1/5 This one tasted bad. The batch we received had a peculiar taste, almost perfumey.

Pan fried veg dumpling - 2/5 Very tiny inside filling.

Pan fried pork dumpling - 1/5 Again the dough was thick and just a teaspoon size of rolled meat inside. I don’t know why, but the meat filling was orange, I also didn’t see any much vegetable.

Egg drop soup - 3/5 This also came lukewarm after 3 minute drive. I’m so confused. Egg drop soup is usually so piping hot in Chinese restaurants that even after 20 minute drive it would still be hot in winter time. It lacked a little salt, which says a lot coming from me because I usually tell places to lighten on salt or no msg.

Tofu Yellow Curry - 1/5 I suggest you not to order curry dish. It was again very underwhelming on salt and seasonings but had too much pepper flakes. People barely touch this, even the thai guest who was there who I got this for.

Shrimp in lobster sauce - 4/5 This one I can suggest for you to order. The shrimp are few but larger. Keep in mind it’s more of a soup because it’s mostly sauce than filling.

Veg Fried Rice - 4/5 This one’s pretty good too. The seasoning is good.

Chicken with orange flavor - 3/5 The chicken has very thick batter. If you open you can see almost half is the batter. Tgey did recommend this over sesame chicken, The sauce also is a dark sauce which with a very aromatic orange citrus kick but not in a good way. It was too sweet but also too umami at same time. I’m glad I ordered the sauce on the side. The kids at least got to eat the chicken like chicken nuggets.

Chicken lo mein - 5/5 This one was the star of the show. Well the only star of the show. It wasn’t too salty and it was seasoned just right. Good thing this one worked out as it was the most important one for me to celebrate the New Year… Long life!

I can’t say I will order again. But if anyone were to crave lo mein, even myself, I’d definitely...

I recently had lunch at Asian Wok, located in Green Hill Plaza at 184 Parsippany Road, and it was an all-around delightful experience.

As soon as you walk in, you’re greeted by a warm, family-friendly atmosphere. The space is clean, bright, and welcoming with charming touches like the two adorable waving lucky cats at the front counter, instantly giving the restaurant a unique and authentic Asian vibe. The woman at the register was incredibly kind and patient, taking our order with a smile and making sure we felt comfortable.

My friend and I ordered two large entrees: • Chicken Lo Mein • General Tso’s Chicken with White Rice

The Lo Mein was delicious, perfectly cooked noodles stir-fried with tender chicken and vegetables, full of rich flavor and a satisfying texture. Every bite was packed with a savory, slightly sweet taste that left us wanting more.

But the real star of the meal was the General Tso’s Chicken. The chicken was incredibly crispy on the outside yet juicy and tender inside, smothered in a flavorful sauce that was slightly sweet with just a hint of heat. Although we asked for “very spicy,” it leaned more toward mild, but the flavor more than made up for it. The dish came with a side of steamed broccoli and fluffy white rice, balancing out the boldness of the chicken.

The restaurant itself is modest in size, with a few tables (two to three four-seaters) for dining in. It may feel a bit tight for larger groups, but it’s perfect for small gatherings or takeout. And speaking of takeout, while we were dining in, there was a steady flow of customers coming in and picking up orders, which speaks to the popularity and reliability of this spot. I noticed a mix of regulars and new faces, which is always a good sign.

One thing I appreciated was the cleanliness of the space. Staff were regularly wiping down tables and sweeping the floor, showing they care about the dining environment. They also had a drink fridge stocked with a solid variety of sodas, seltzers, juices, great for grab-and-go convenience.

Total bill: Around $25.73 for two large entrees, very reasonable for the quality and portion size!

⸻

Final Thoughts:

✅ Friendly and attentive staff ✅ Delicious, flavorful dishes (especially the General Tso’s!) ✅ Clean, cozy space with a strong takeout crowd ✅ Affordable pricing ✅ Authentic Asian ambiance

If you’re in Parsippany and craving great Chinese food, Asian Wok is a spot I’d highly recommend. I noticed they also offer Pad Thai definitely looking forward to trying...

I decided to try this place solely based on its 4.7 rating, which is the highest I’ve seen in Parsippany at this moment(5/2025). I've lived here for over eight years and have tried nearly every Chinese restaurant in the area, so I was curious to check out this newer spot.

I ordered just one item—the House Special Fried Rice, which included shrimp, chicken, and pork (I think). The total came to $10.61 with tax for a small portion. And when they say small, they really mean it. For that price, I could’ve gotten a full combo meal elsewhere.

As for the food itself, the flavor was just okay. The color of the rice was pale—almost white—which was off-putting, especially when you expect the usual golden or brown tones typical of fried rice. On the plus side, it wasn’t too greasy. But still, for over $10, I expected more than just two shrimp in a “house special” dish.

This is my go-to dish at most places, and I’ve been to many where you get a lot more food and better value for the same price. Unfortunately, I won’t be returning.

I’ve also attached comparison pictures: one from another local spot where I got half a chicken and a generous portion of house special rice with jumbo shrimp underneath for $9.95 + tax, and another showing what I received from Asian Wok...
