Been coming here since '96 but will have reservations now after talking to the owner. I landed in EWR at 8:15pm and the first place I thought of ordering takeout from was Chand Palace as it's 5 min from our home. I set up a pickup time for 9:15 pm while taxiing and seeing as the place closes at 10:15 pm I thought I would be fine. I picked up my luggage at the baggage claim at 9pm and I was planning on calling once Uber arrived when I got a call from the owner. He said the food was ready. When I explained I will be there closer to 9:45, he said he would not wait 1 min more past 10pm. Once I got to the restaurant at 9:47 the owner handed me the food and I asked to speak to him outside as there was a loud private party indoors. I wanted to explain how there seems to be a misunderstanding about the timing. This is where things got interesting. He became confrontational and said I should have indicated a pickup time since they are required to prepare the food within 30 min of ordering (his interpretation was that the food was ready at 8:45pm and he called at 9pm thinking I wasn't going to come). I explained I had indicated 9:15. He repeated the same statement a few times. I then asked him why he thought not waiting for me "1 min past 10pm" was appropriate since they state that they close at 10:15pm online. He said the website may have issues. I then pointed at the print on their glass window also indicating 10:15pm. That's when he just paused and said "what do you want me to say". He also explained how he's been in the restaurant business for decades and had some impressive government position in India before. He then accused me of not respecting my elders. I said didn't want to have a bad rapport with him since I've been coming there for over 20 years. He then responded that whether or not I decide to come is my choice. The conversation ended with him saying "I apologize" not very sincerely and "good night".
The entire conversation suggested to me that this owner is not receptive to hearing from his customers and has an ego the size of their buffet table. Humility would have gone a long way. If he could put aside his ego for a second, he could have processed that the restaurant had made errors in: preparing food 30 min in advance of the designated pickup time accused the customer wrongfully for not designating a pickup time not knowing the posted closing time of the restaurant online and on the store glass window not giving a care in the world whether the customer ever came back.

Read moreSo on the 28th birthday so we went to chand palace parsippany before we went we called them a head of time and made a reservation for the last seating at 8:30pm they assured us that the food will be replenished and that they don’t close service till 10 just no more guest are seated after 9. When we went the seating hostess made us cheese dosa’s that was nice also made us papadi chat which was inedible as it was awful to taste. We were scraping the bottom of the dishes to get any food. Then finally the chef brought a little bowl of paneer makhani just for our table. That was the only food that we got . Not to mention around where the buffet is set up we saw mice running around. We were grossed out considering it all it was to late to try another restaurant since most would have closed, also the seating hostess who actually is the daughter- in - law of the owners had already gone so we asked this waiter who before was acting all polite while she was there, if we could just take the paneer on our table home he said no in a rude mamaer so we decided fine we’ll finish it while there he took it from our table without asking us we asked for it back saying we are paying for it we should have a chance to eat it at the table at least . This interaction was so unpleasant and unwarranted specially on my husband’s birthday. Also when most guest were leaving the waiters would bad mouth customer loudly for other guests to hear . Not to mention every time they came to pour water in your glass of your jacket was on you chair hanging behind of a side chair they would alway touch it holding it to balance them selves which is so unprofessional. No excusing themselves. The food is low quantity as well the paneer makhni should be a tomatoes gravy but they use carrots to reduce the cost . They add a lot of MSG to their food and Kewra water this fills you too quickly then give a headache or bloating after but after 2 hours you are hungry again. This place should be shut...
Read moreMy family has been to Chand Palace several times prior to November 2021, the food was really good and we loved 💕 the buffet. The spread had a variety of foods and we ordered some things al a karte. But in Nov 2021, we were expecting a grand feast for Diwali but we experienced an all-time low. They claimed that there was a special Chaat counter but we went there and only saw tokri Chaat. You could hardly call that a counter. Even on a normal day they used to have more chaat options and would taste better. Now with the lotus fry, the people kept insisting that the chef is the same but the lotus fry was undercooked and tough to eat and wasn't fully covered in sauce. Virtually, nothing original was there, except for store bought sweets ice cream and gulab jamun. There used to be mango delight and chocolate covered biscuits. Overall it was a collosal let-down while we were expecting a grand feast. So, I am ultimately disappointed ☹️ with this new management. We will not be going to Chand Palace anytime soon unless we hear of there is improvement.
The owner is right that Diwali was in November and we did visit in November but the quality of the food the comments about the overall spread still holds good. I hope the management takes these comments constructively and makes an effort to improve. The main reason for posting the comment earlier was because Chand Palace used to be our favourite Indian restaurant in NJ and we felt very...
