Let me say first when I discovered Shan Shan Noodles 6 years ago, the food was excellent. It was so good we actually ate dinner inside there 3 days in a row. We stopped going to this restaurant prior to Covid when our last experience encountered steel wool in my soup. At that time the owner was not so apologetic but her daughter had refunded our money. My husband recently suggested we try take out from here after all these many years. We went to our go to the vegetable soup with egg for me and the beef soup for him as well as scallion pancakes. He went to pick up the soup and as he was making a sharp turn onto the other side of 46 the bag of food slightly shifted and he noticed liquid at bottom of bag. The bag was tightly knotted so he drove back to ask for another soup. The owner (same lady from years ago) had the audacity to say why he drove so fast. He said why don't you open the bag to see what the problem was. As she untied the bag , he said the plastic lid on the soup was halfway closed. He said perhaps instead of blaming him for leaked soup you should check your inventory control. He said she put the container in garbage bin by register then she took out and brought back to kitchen while unrapping the other food that was submerged and supposedly provided new food in all new packaging. As she opened the curtain to enter the kitchen the next thing he heard was loud high pitched yelling like cats in a blender (no pun intended). As he left he said "I will watch my driving and be more carefull"..Needless to say the pancakes were soggy and oiley, beef soup had 3-4 pieces and bland though the vegetable soup was not bad. Needless to say this restaurant has not aged well. Farewell Shan Shan. Good luck in your...
Read moreGreat spot for authentic handmade Chinese noodles and dishes. Came here after going to a gym in the area and decided to eat out here since I'm not in the area that often. GF suggested this spot and away we went.
Immediately as we walked in the matriarch was super friendly, gave us a table with plenty of room and bought in some complimentary green tea? Not 100% sure, could have been oolong it was a bit weak. Very friendly and walked us through the menu and any questions we had.
I decided on getting the Beef Pancake with scallions, Cumin Lamb Hand Rolled Noodles, and the Shrimp Fried Hand Rolled Noodles. The Beef Pancake was exemplary! Absolutely delicious, rolled in a crispy wheat bread and seasoned really well. I'd definitely recommend this to everyone.
The Cumin Lamb was good, I paid a little more for extra meat. Strong hit of cumin in this dish so if you're not into that I'd advise you to avoid it. I liked it, the broth was well seasoned as well. Only small issue was that my dish was luke-warm when it came out and the noodles did taste a little chewy and old. I ordered another one for takeaway and that was at a good temperature.
The Shrimp Fried Noodles were a big hit with my girl, she loved it and finished her entire dish. That's usually rare, especially with the amount of food this place gives.
We also got the Matcha Smoothie with less sugar and it was good as well. They own a bakery one store down from where they are and bring their sweets/drinks in from there.
Great spot I'd highly recommend, super friendly owner and staff. Definitely coming back here next time I'm...
Read moreThis place is like the perfect balance between authentic and Americanized Chinese food. Friendly, upfront, and accommodating service staff. Food got to our table extremely quickly. Like maybe 5 minutes after we ordered, we got our first dish. My favorite thing was the Chinese burgers. If you haven't had Chinese burgers, this is the perfect place to try them. Think of an Asian panini with Asian sloppy joe style pork. The bread is super crispy, but the inside of the bread soaks up the juiciness and spices of the shredded pork. Pork was succulent and seasoning was good. Would come here just for these Chinese burgers.
The stir-fry seafood dish was also really great, which had a subtle and not too blatant shrimp flavor. The vegetarian soup noodles also we're pretty good, clean and simple broth, and you can add the hot oil that they provide on the table if you wish (hot oil isn't really that spicy, but has a nice nutty flavor). The dish I liked least was the soybean noodles, had a sourish aftertaste, which might've been the fermented soybeans or a vinegar. The dish also had meat so it was gravy like as well. We also got the noodles in hot oil, which was really unique. This was mildly spicy, and had a sharp vinegar taste that you either love or hate. Again, service is good, they refilled tea when we were giving the check, even though the tea is basically...
