Lee's Hoagie House — Restaurant in Pasadena

this place came so highly regarded, and it's very much loved by people quite obviously, the people that work there are great, and I love the literature quotes - anywhere that has a George Eliot quote above the condiment stand must be applauded and lauded. Also, no small feat to note that it has the best bathroom of any restaurant below five stars that I've ever been to. It really seems like somebody's home or a fancy b&b.

And yet, and yet-- the food was just okay. It was a little bit of a shock, actually, given all the great reviews for this place, and the enthused patrons on site who were eager to offer their suggestions to a newcomer for the best sandwich on the menu (grilled chicken, Philly cheese steak, or the pastrami). There are a very few places I love in Pasadena and Lee’s Hoagie House is one of them! They’re signature chicken hoagie is my go to and now I tried the Philly cheesesteak and it was yummy. I added some chili’s and jalepenos and so good. I was still hungry and they Recommended the protein burrito which comes with chicken and egg whites and avocado and tomatoes wrapped in a spinach tortilla.the protein burrito was delicious and can be considered a breakfast burrito. I still can’t wait to try other sandwiches and rice plates and more. I also love the sides they provide complimentary like pickles, spicy jicama, jalepenos, pickled cauliflower, etc. Bottom line of this place is a gem.

One more thing they treat you like family right when you walk in the door. You know how they treat you good here, they call you by name and make you good food to eat. Lee's Hoagie is very good in the area of cleanliness, quality of food, price, menue selection , attentive staff (one of the employees was tidying up an area and bussed my plate for me, another employee while doing something in the dining area topped off my cup of coffee) and timeliness (quick enough service, nothing is pre done so it naturally takes time to cook your meal) Now with all that said the restaurant gets 5 Stars. However the owner, I'm guessing he's the owner, gets 6 Stars. Which sets this place above and beyond the average hamburger joint. I ordered my food gave him a card he printed out the receipt and said thank you David. Half the people who walked in there he called them by name and sometimes said "will you have the usual?" When I left he was pouring coffee at one of the tables and as I walked by him I said "have a nice day" he said "you too David".
