Mijares Mexican Restaurant — Restaurant in Pasadena

Saw this place listed on Happy Hopper and decided to head out and have a margarita that the reviews raved about.

I walked up to the door and didn't see anyone at the front so I waited a bit. There were two men talking and I made eye contact with one of them. I figured I'll step inside a bit to be seen. Still nothing. The two men continued talking.

It's been about 3ish minutes already. Four people come in and IMMEDIATELY one of the two guys goes and greets them. They nicely pointed out to him that I was here first. And this guy's response? "I'll get to you in a minute" and continues seating them. I should have walked out at that point. This dude saw me walk up AND walk in and completely ignored me.

Whatever fine. I still wanted that happy hour. Unfortunately, happy hour is only offered in the bar area and I had my dog. I believe there is a patio that's adjacent to the bar but it was not set up.

I still got to enjoy a margarita and chips. The margarita was delicious! ($15 skinny Marg)

I ordered a bean and cheese burrito ($10.50) and it was a great size but the beans lacked flavor. I believe if a Mexican restaurants beans are not good then the other food is not good. Therefore I did not try anything else.

I ordered limes and got the driest limes ever. These things have been sitting out for days because the pulp crumbled when I squeezed them. (See photo)

Bad experience all around. My water was awesome but the damage was done....

If my 50 years of dining at Mijares carries any weight, please read on. Mijares is so much more than a restaurant. It is ore a home away from home. This family welcomes you with the warmth of your own family. From the moment you enter you are warmly welcomed by a member of the family or a longtime member of the staff. You will soon feel like you have come to the right place even before you sample the delights on the menu. You will be served most likely by a loyal server of many happy years at Mijares. primo was my waiter for many years. I believe he was well into his nineties before he retired. Two of my busboys are still there. They were so young when DonMcAlpin, Elizabeth Boone, Her Cohen and I had our great lunch out on the old Patio. It is difficult to describe the menu because I have tried almost everything on the menu and they were all fabulous. Unfortunately, my meals there are limited since I moved to Walnut Creek to be near my kids and grandkids. But I return to Pasadena as often as I can and have never missed more than one dinner T Mijares. These days since my old mijares buddies have passed away, you are likely to see me with my dear friends Chris snd Rose Moore. Come to Mijares and explore a great menu and the best possible...

Was there to celebrate a friends birthday. Food was okay, our server was good, however imposed a 20% tip already added to the bill instead of letting customers decide. It was a big party, but still, I think it should be up to the customer to decide. Anyhow, another mishap was, my car was hit in their parking lot and ripped the bumper, hit and run of course which I didn't noticed until the following morning that I got hit. I called the restaurant, I was transfers to an older gentleman to whom I explained the situation. I was asking him a favor if they could possibly check their cameras. Quickly stated will check in within a min got back on the phone and claimed he didn't see anything. I just wonder if he had a time lapsed for him to view an activity that transpired in about 3 hours. Man sounded impatient an annoyed, staring I can it again later when I have time. I didn't mean for him to do it right away nor did I sound imposing. In fact I told I didn't expect him to do it at the moment I was speaking to him. He said can try checking later and c as n call you, but he didn't even get my name nor my # and rudely hang up on me. NEVER again will I ever go back there and will not recommend for...
