Salsa Picante is a hidden gem in the North Lake Square Shopping Center. This hole in the wall family owned and run Mexican restaurant has a huge menu. Everything from starters to flan is authentic and handmade. Inexpensive and satisfying simple comfort food is made from scratch with love by the ladies in the kitchen. This place has been serving up the comfort with old school style for years. They serve dine in on real plates with real silverware. Recently they have upgraded their takeout game by adding online ordering to the traditional phone order option. If you are reading through the reviews here I encourage you to disregard the few bad reviews and take note of the love from local regulars who have not had a bad experience. Admittedly, I am still early in my journey through their huge menu. I can say that the al pastor is my favorite taco and I enjoy the wet burrito. I am looking forward to trying the green pork burrito. Recently I decided to try the cheeseburger and fries after multiple recommendations claiming that the quality of the burger option at Mexican restaurants around here is not to be underestimated. This burger was a classic example of how simple things done well can be very satisfying. Its bigger, fresher and less expensive than most fast food burger combos. Since its not a burger place the fries and patty are cooked fresh when you order. Gotta love fries that are hot and crispy right out of the frier. In addition to the standard toppings, lettuce, tomato, and pickles, the standouts are the hot steamy freshly grilled onions and the creamy melty white cheese. Its great value for what you get. Its also the only inexpensive takeout cheeseburger combo on any menu within easy walking distance of Washington and Lake. So, if you are in the neighborhood I highly recommend that you give this place a try soon.

Was charged for a 1.49 dollar drink I paid 6 bucks for a burger and a drink and found hair in my food. I'm extremely and extremely unsatisfied with my extremely rude service. Please send this to department of food heath services. This is a picture of after eating this food. Thanks...

Incredible food…home cooked. I felt like I was in their home eating…wonderful hospitality. And my vegetarian tacos were beautifully presented & just as yummy. Chips & green salsa (medium hot) delish too. Great price! I will definitely be back. 5 STARS!

Visited this place to try something new. Turns out it's more than your average hole-in-the-wall, but still with a mom pop feel. Knowing that it's located in a Food4Less strip mall, you really can't miss it. Service here is order at the counter, find a table, then they'll bring your your food on ceramic plates. After finishing my meal, I had no clue what to do with my plate, so I sat there a bit and observed 2 older ladies (locals I gathered). Yep, they just left it all there and so did I. That's your pro-tip if you get nothing else outta this review.

-=-Bean and cheese burrito-=- So I'm vegetarian for a little bit longer for this Lenten season. I've really started a craze into these bean and cheese burritos and have been sampling them here and there. When the burrito came, it was a fairly large sized boring burrito on your ceramic plate. When the cashier asked me if I wanted it as a wet burrito I should have taken that offer. The way that this burrito was constructed there was no picking it up, so you would have to knife and fork it anyway. I also really wished there would have been more cheese inside, but oh well, there's a salsa...

I've lived in Lubbock for about two years now, and I've got to say: best Mexican place in town. I am never ever disappointed in anything I've tried! I'm a girl who misses her mama's cooking often, and it is safe to say this is the closest I can get to it without actually going home! Their tacos al pastor are perfect!

Their food isn't where it stops though. The things that really sealed the deal for me loving this place was the owner. His name is Jaime, and he's an absolute joy! He was so hospitable, he really treated us...
