Tops — Restaurant in Pasadena

I've been eating at this tops alone and with friends since it opened. It has many of its original employees.

I recently left California for a few months and returned today. Tops was the first place I stopped for lunch.

My favorite is the Bacon and Avocados Burger, with a box of fries and ranch dip.

Before I left, I was talking with an employee and asked if they had ever considered making nachos since they pretty much already had all the ingredients for other meals.

I went back in two weeks or so later and they had introduced three different nacho meals. Asada, Chicken and plain nachos. I am a nachos fanatic, so I am really glad they took it to heart. I only wish they would put some refried beans with them. Maybe they will later.

I also love their breakfast burritos - bacon and sausage with their amazing green sauce. Had one for breakfast the morning I left California.

I used to live a few block away until recently. Unfortunately, I will probably not be close enough to eat here anymore on a regular basis.

I think the only thing I do not like is that when they take an order through the drive through, they have often over charged me despite telling them I was paying with cash. They charge a fee if you pay with a credit or debit card, and seem to assume that is how you are going to pay.

Other wise I can't think of anything I don't like about Tops on...

Stopped by Tops to redeem my Groupon voucher I had purchased. The food is decent here. I usually come here with my sister and we split the pastrami and some variation of chili cheese fries or some other side and that's plenty of food. With the Groupon voucher, no other promos can be used. They have a promo right now where you join their text list and you can get a free drink. They wouldn't let me use my voucher and get a drink. Fair enough.

Keep in mind to read the menu boards carefully. I had eyed the Junior sized fried zucchini prices thinking that it was the Small size. I was trying to get my bill over $10 to maximize my voucher since the pastrami I got was a tad under $10. Of course when the guy took my order he asked Small or Large. (This is the ploy some of the really large fast food chains use to get you to upsize when the standard size is the small which for most people is totally fine.) I didn't realize what had happened until I realized I paid more than I had originally calculated in my head since I was still discombobulated when they wouldn't let me redeem the free drink and use my voucher. Lesson learned.

Parking: There's parking in the lot right behind. Not sure if there's much street parking available since the streets are...

I am a driver and on the evening of January 23, 2022, I got a downvote (bad review) for this restaurant, and this 1 star was given to the young male employee who was in charge of the drive-up window reception on January 23. When I drove in line to get to the pick-up window, the customer's food had not started to be prepared. After waiting there for 20 minutes, I got the customer's food. I told the young male employee. Normally, when the driver arrived, the driver should get the food, not when the driver arrived, the food began to be prepared. The young male employee replied that you have to wait, everyone has to wait, I replied that I am just a driver, I don't have so much time to wait here, and then I left with the food and got a downvote (bad review) from this male employee, if every restaurant wastes the driver's time like this one, the driver doesn't have to work. I hope the restaurant manager can regulate your employees and don't give the driver a bad review.
