A blacksmith’s prayer, “God made some human big and some human small, but human made steel and steel made them equal”. This prayer morphed into, “God didn’t create human equal, Colonel Colt did”. The “Colonel Colt” mentioned here is Sameul Colt. In 1836 Colt invented the Colt Paterson Revolver, the first practical revolving-cylinder handgun (once considered one of the ten most influential inventions), in Paterson, New Jersey (Great Falls, Colt Gun Mill area).

Thanks to Alexander Hamilton, Society for Establishing Useful Manufactures (SUM), and hydropower leveraged from the Passaic River, Paterson was once the industrial capital of the new America.

Holland VI, the first submarine was launched in the Passaic River by the Great Falls in Paterson NJ in May 17, 1897. It was bought by the U.S. Navy and was commissioned as the USS Holland.

The site where Colt Revolvers were made, Colt Gun Mill, became the first Silk Mill in Paterson, NJ. By the 1880s, the city was producing almost half of the silk manufactured in the United States and had earned a nationwide reputation as "Silk City."

The Great Falls (The Historical Park) still exists, but between then and now, Paterson has seen some not-so-great days. Brooklyn (NY) and Hoboken (NJ) saw similar days, but made a grand comeback. Things have been slowly happening in Paterson also . We are seeing green shoots. Time will tell, if it becomes anything close to Hoboken or Jersey City. Nonetheless it is a pleasure to see people take pride in our past and invest in this area. Something new that has potential is the new Silk Café (120 McBride Ave Paterson NJ). It aims to make its customers talk to each other and get off the phone. There is coffee, there is food (big menu, don't miss the crispy fries), plenty of parking space, and prices as if it is still Alexander...

I have been wanting to stop by this cafe since I saw the advertising on Instagram. The dishes looked mouth watering in all of the reels posted. So I took a ride to check it out. The atmosphere is very cute, clean and nice decor. Customer service was good everyone was nice. So we sat down and looked through the menu. When it came time to order I was disappointed that many items I looked forward to trying were not available. They also do not have decaf options for coffee drinks. We ordered pancakes, waffles, a few refreshers, the hummus platter and a milkshake. The waffles were not the same pictured in Instagram. They were French toast sticks that tasted like the ones we buy in the store. The pancakes were good and the refreshers were very pretty. The hummus platter was ok but I would not return unfortunately after this experience. It is a really sweet spot hopefully they are able to improve and have more of what’s on the menu available! The main issue I had is that what is being advertised on social media is not actually being delivered and this was...

One of the Best Cafés in the Area!

The moment I walked into this café, it felt like stepping back in time – a perfect blend with the historic charm of the area. The décor is simple yet elegant, creating a stylish and cozy vibe, while the aroma of freshly brewed coffee instantly puts a smile on your face.

The coffee is rich and flavorful, and the desserts are fresh, varied, and absolutely melt-in-your-mouth good. Prices are reasonable, service is fast, and the staff are genuinely friendly and welcoming, which adds to the relaxing atmosphere.

The menu truly has something for everyone – from specialty coffee to refreshing cold drinks and light snacks. I’ve attached photos of the menu so you can pick your favorites before visiting.

Thank you to the amazing team for such a lovely experience – this definitely won’t be my last visit! Highly recommended for coffee lovers looking for a warm, inviting...

had the pleasure of dining at Silk Café in Paterson with my wife , and everything was fresh, flavorful, and absolutely delicious. The chicken shawarma salad was perfectly seasoned, tender, and paired beautifully with the crisp lettuce, cucumbers, and tomatoes. The hummus was creamy and smooth with just the right drizzle of olive oil and spices, and the warm pita bread complemented it perfectly. The falafel salad was equally impressive — crispy on the outside, soft inside, and full of authentic flavor. Portions were generous, and everything tasted freshly prepared. The overall atmosphere was welcoming and relaxed, making it a great spot to enjoy Mediterranean food. I’ll definitely be coming back to try more of their menu. Highly recommended!
