My wife and I made reservations here for Valentine’s dinner a few weeks in advance. They had a limited special menu and we were each looking forward to our chosen food as well as a rare night out together without kids. We arrived about 10 minutes early and were seated promptly.
Course 1 was supposed to be a choice of French Onion Soup, Caprese Salad, or a Spinach Salad – we were told they had no French onion soup or caprese salad… so we chose the only choice. They later offered caprese salad with a different dressing which I took.
Course 2 was supposed to be either mini beef wellingtons, crispy lobster ravioli or smoked trout. We had our hearts set on the wellington but it was sold out. We don’t like either of the other options but we were told our option was to order one of them or skip the course. We ordered the lobster ravioli and (as expected) did not like it (I’m sure it was good, we just don’t like lobster ravioli).
Course 3 was supposed to be either Red Snapper, Steak and Lobster, Chicken Florentine, or Gnocchi. Again, we were excited for steak and lobster but of course, they didn’t have that. They said they did have steak so my wife ordered that without the lobster and I decided to settle for chicken. About 15 minutes later they told my wife they were out of steak so she too had chicken.
Dessert was good. They comped a bottle of wine for slow service but the dinner was a complete disaster. They knew they took limited reservations for Valentine’s day and yet they did not have enough food. This is an alright place to drop in but I would not recommend going here for anything special or important. I have entertained people here in the past for work but I won’t be...
Read moreI am not the biggest fan of leaving negative comments, but this is something I felt I had to share. I am in town on business and saw this little spot that looked like a nice place to eat lunch. Everyone was nice and I sat at the small bar alone as I wasn't with a group of people. I ordered the shrimp tacos and my first bite into my first taco, I had what felt like a shrimp shell in my mouth. I pulled it out to find it was a plastic white bread bag clamp. I was offered another plate of tacos to which I politely declined. I figured there was a good chance I wouldn't eat any more plastic and I was very hungry. All I asked was that the chef be made aware of what occurred. At the end of the quick lunch I was offered a $2 discount on my $16 bill for the trouble. Additionally I was offered a free dessert to go. Firstly, I could have choked and died on that pretty chunky piece of plastic. My assumption would have been that my meal would be comped as I would have done that in my past life in the service industry for my customers. Additionally, I am not a dessert person as I tend to eat relatively healthy and definitely don't eat dessert at lunch. Lastly, the chef never came out to apologize or anything. I just feel like when you mess up that bad, you bite the bullet and comp the meal and come out and apologize. Instead I left with a $2 discount and some tasty shrimp tacos in my stomach (which is why I went with two stars instead of one. The food was very good.) Anyway, take what you will from my experience. I am sure this sort of thing doesn't...
Read moreUnbelievable experience at Grinds and Wines for lunch today. I ordered the "most popular" dish as stated on their online menu (Lemon Basil Pasta with Salmon). I was looking forward to the red bell pepper and asparagus in the sauce and when it came out it had 3 tiny pieces of asparagus. I asked the waiter if I could get more because clearly someone made a mistake. The answer was "no, because we are low on asparagus". I asked if they could bring an additional veggie of some sort to take its place then. They said for an upcharge they could. I said okay but I'd like to speak to a supervisor when they had a second. The answer from the supervisor was virtually "sorry, no. That's all you get." So I ended up paying $34 plus tip for a tiny piece of salmon (admittedly cooked perfectly), a humungous pile of linguine (super unflavorful sauce with not a piece of fresh basil in it), specks of veggies and a prosecco, which is actually worth less than $12, plus super-slow service and a "no, you are wrong, customer" attitude. Epic fail and crossed off the list of options of places...
