One word sums this place up..Horrible! I've lived in Pekin for 11 years. I've never had Jimbos Jumbo. So tonight me and my daughter decided to give it a try.
To start, when I called, the woman that answered was kind of rude. I had looked at the menu online prior to calling but still had questions. One option is $6-7 for 4 chicken strips and fries. So I asked for 2 orders of those. She said they have to be purchased separately. Basically $5 for 4 chicken strips and close to $5 for the fries. Okay, I told her what the menu showed and she said sorry, it has to be sold separately. Fine. I ordered the "famous" steak sandwich they are known for and fries. I also ordered a small cheesy bread. Total came to $40!!! Simple enough. This was at 7:21pm.. I made sure to tell her exact instructions to my townhouse...
After an hour of waiting, 8:20pm I call to check our order. It's chicken strips, fries and a sandwich.. easy enough. The same woman answered and asked for my address, I gave it to her and she put me on hold for several minutes. When she came back, she said the delivery guy had left 10 minutes prior to me calling and should be here at any moment.... TWENTY (20) minutes later I get a call from a random number, it's the driver. He can't find my home. I asked if the instructions where given to him, nope!
As you can imagine, when you order what I did and it takes an hour and half to receive the order.. it's going to be cold. Sure enough! The fries felt like they'd just been taken out of the freezer and super soggy.. the chicken was soggy and ice cold.. the "famous" steak sandwich was cold, rubbery, and looked like it tasted.. like dog food!
It cost me $45 with a tip to the drivers after all it wasn't his fault and he was very apologetic and nice.. But $45 for food that had to be thrown out! We ended up eating a frozen pizza at 930pm.
I try to give ALL these smaller mom and pop places a chance... this is one I'll never eat at nor recommend again. TERRIBLE food and even WORSE...
Read moreMy boyfriend and I are new to Pekin, but have lived in the Tri-County area our whole lives. We've both heard people give rave reviews of Jimbo's,especially their steak sandwich. So tonight, we decided to roll the dice. We went in and each ordered a steak sandwich, also hot wings and mozzarella sticks. We payed and went to wait in the car. They said they would run it out to the car. After about 25 minutes, we went in to see what was up. Our sandwiches and mozz sticks were in the heated holder. They couldn't locate the wings, and ultimately realized that they sent them out with another order. At this time, they offered us 2 cookies and apologized and remade the wings while us (and our ever cooling sandwiches waited). While waiting out at the picnic tables a man, whom im assuming was an owner or manager was leaving for the night. He came to us and apologized again and told us to refill our polar pop cups we already had before leaving. A few minutes later, we went in and the order was ready. The staff apologized again and then also gave us two orders of potato salad....We did not care for ANY of the food. The steak tasted strange to us and the wings were very fatty and not fried long enough IMO. While the customer service was IMPECCABLE, the food was just not to our liking. If you are from Peoria and you love Steak n Fries or Bellacinos steak and cheese, DO NOT go Jimbos because you will not like it. If you don't already have a favorite steak and cheese, Jimbos may be for you. I wish them well and hope they always remain...
Read moreI've been wanting to try this place for a year now since I have been in the city of Pekin. Tiny quaint place. Even tinier parking lot, so park far as not to take a chance getting a ding on your car door. The food was good. I called in my order and when I asked for a meat lovers pizza, I was told they actually have 3 different meat lovers.. 4 meat, 5 meat, and 6 meat. I ordered the 6 meat lovers pizza, which was fabulous and a Italian beef and sausage combo sandwich with mozzarella cheese, giardinara, and red sauce. Pizza comes cut in squares and they only offer dry sandwiches; I was informed they don't dip the Italian beefs, which I didn't want anyways. I liked the sandwich except I wish the Italian beef was more intact. The Italian beef I got was kinda more shredded like instead of full slices of Italian beef. Nevertheless it tasted great. I'll be coming back to this place and I would recommend this place to...
