I’d like to start this review by saying we had gone here previously, when they were located at the old building. We had amazing service and good food back then. This time, wasn’t nearly as pleasant of an experience. What was meant to be a special dinner for my husband’s Birthday, ended up being pure disappointment.
I had reservations for 6:30 and we arrived a little early expecting to wait but were seated right away which was nice. We brought our baby with us and the people greeting us and seating us were super nice to her and very accommodating.
Unfortunately the good service ended there. It was quite some time before we saw our server for the first time. However we weren’t bothered by it at this point. We put in our order for drinks and appetizers and asked about the daily specials. I’m not quite sure how long we waited, but it was a noticeable amount of time before we were even given any water. Eventually, we finally got our drinks and it took a lot more time to get our appetizer. By this time our baby was starting to get a little fidgety but we were able to give her some of the appetizer to chill her out. We still hadn’t been checked on again to put our dinner order in. I’m not sure what time we put our dinner order in but it had to of been close to an hour in. Our food took FOREVER.
We came hungry and each ordered an entree as we were excited to eat here again. We weren’t expecting to be starving by the time the food finally came. Our server only ever filled our waters once and didn’t ask if there was anything else we needed or wanted (mind you, my drink was empty and my husbands was about 2/3 gone).
About the food - was it good? Sort of. We had gotten the truffle fries and somehow ended up with MOSTLY skins and hardly any actual fries. I ordered the filet mignon and got it medium-rare as I’m pregnant, but it was VERY rare. I did not send it back as I did not want to wait another 30+ minutes for my food.
Lastly, when I booked the reservation I put in the notes that it’s my husbands Birthday. Usually, when we go to a restaurant like this on a weekday, we’re asked by the server “are we celebrating anything today?” And then we are given a dessert with a sweet message on it. Our server never asked us this. The time finally came to where we were able to ask for a box. She did not ask us if we wanted dessert but we asked “do yall do anything for birthdays?” She proceeded to list a bunch of different cakes. We were a little surprised there were options but chose one. It eventually came and was not on a special plate, no candle, no sweet message. Just about every table around us received some sort of Anniversary or Birthday plate, so this was quite the disappointment.
Overall, the amount of waiting we did was insane. We were there for about 2 hours. Our server almost never checked on us. We saw other servers checking on their tables MANY times. We could also tell that she just didn’t really care. I’m sad that his Birthday ended in such disappointment. Sadly, we will not be going back here and will tell our friends to...
Read moreTo begin with, this restaurant is a gem in Pensacola Fl. There are two sections to this restaurant that differ in setting, decor and ambiance. Regardless of the section you are seated in, you will find yourself comfortable, and enjoying the dim lights, gentle murmur of chatter, and music in the background. Because of that, for this category, Pearl & Horn gets 5 ⭐️.
The server we had was soft spoken, polite and greeted us within a few minutes of our seating. She told us about her favorite items on the menu and gave us several suggestions for cocktails and food. Throughout our visiting the restaurant she checked in frequently and gave us undivided attention when at our table.
I tried the “Shoot The Breeze” and “A Taste of Elsewhere.” The former was a unique combination of herbal and spice mellowed with coconut milk, while the latter was a more robust “summer” flavor combining watermelon and tamarind held together by an unsuspecting gochujang. While both were delicious, they left little impression because there was not enough “punch” from either drink. I believe with more shotta syrup, jalapeño and lemon for the “shoot the breeze” could have elevated the drink. Same with the “Taste of elsewhere” this drink did not transport my senses anywhere and could use more mint, and tamarind and a little more whiskey to help the drink stand out more.
Unfortunately most of my disappointment is toward the portions and quality of food. The Seafood fries is NOT a shareable dish. Shareable in regards to the amount of fries given with is, sure, yes. In actuality though, between two people, it’s quite ridiculous to share 4 handful of fries, a spoonful of crabmeat and 3 shrimp. Is it expected that one person gets the shrimp and the other the spoonful of crabmeat, or straight down the middle and split the shrimp 1.5 each? Either way, it’s quite humorous and not in a funny way—audacious.
The Orange Miso Seared Scallops in my opinion were absolutely delicious. The scallops melt in your mouth and the spaghetti squash add a little crunch, and since it has a light flavor it doesn’t distract or overwhelm from the flavor of scallops. However, at $47, 4 scallops is not nearly enough. Unfortunately I’ve been to some seafood restaurants in California that serve atleast 6 scallops (same size as those given at Pearl &Horn) for the dish and were just as delicious. I would recommend this dish as an appetizer rather than an entree because it is not filling, and the quantity does leave you a little unsatisfied. Again, still VERY DELICIOUS. 🤤
Overall, this place is still a must try, but don’t expect too much from the portions and don’t have high expectations for...
Read moreFirst and foremost. Peyton deserves a raise. He was an amazing server and made our night truly magical.
He asked about allergies before he even asked for our drinks, and was a Rockstar communicator between the kitchen and our table. Both of us have tricky allergies, and neither of us were exposed to anything during our visit. A++ The chef made appropriate replacements for things we couldn't have, and it was still amazing with modifications happening on the fly.
The crab and avocado appetizer is beyond explanation, and almost too pretty to eat. I want expecting a dip, and instead it was basically a crab salad taken to entirely new levels beyond anything I've ever had.
The black garlic miso oysters were cooked perfectly and memorable. Absolutely delicious.
The triple mushroom risotto was executed perfectly and was full of flavor. An excellent option for a vegetarian or a carnivore.
The baharat Colorado lamb chops melted in our mouths like happy little meat Popsicles. We couldn't get the usual seasoning on them, but I was still sucking the bones to get every drop of flavor of it, and the wild rice pilaf underneath them wasexcellent. I prefer my wild rice a little more done but my boyfriend likes his less done and it was a big hit with both of us. A very narrow needle to thread.
The Orange Miso seared scallops were by far the star of the show. Almost too beautiful to eat, cooked to perfection, and oh so delicious. Gordon Ramsey would have been proud of this plate, beginning to end.
Their key lime pie is the REAL DEAL! I am very picky about key lime pies (having made them from scratch) and this was perfection. Don't be shy and take those big bites, and the classic key lime tingle will hit you just right. Not too sweet, not to sour, perfection from zest to crust.
My partner was disappointed in the chocolate to peanut butter ratio of their peanut butter chocolate explosion, but if you prefer more chocolate and less peanut butter, it will be perfect for you.
We loved every moment of out time there, and I would absolutely highly recommend them. Call for reservations,...
