I just left this restaurant. I ordered a cup of egg, drop soup and general Tsaos chicken. First of all, they did a really nice job decorating the place. It has really delicate flowers painted along the walls and some nice pictures hanging up. It’s very cute. They only say that I could get to go with my meal with egg drop soup. I’m not a fan of egg drop soup. Having said that, it was pretty good, ribbons of silky, egg, small amount of vegetables, I added a little bit of soy sauce and it was perfect for me. I’m a big believer that the first bite tells the tale. I took a bite of the chicken, the taste was spot on. It was not over sauced, it was not greasy, it had a very nice flavor with just the perfect amount of spice. The entrée came with a spring roll and a scoop of rice. I don’t care for spring rolls, but I did take a bite of it, it tasted like any other spring roll. Only it was definitely very crunchy and not in the slightest greasy. If you like spring rolls, you would probably claim that a winner. I was less impressed with the fried rice that went along with the meal. As you can see by the photo all it is is brown colored rice. It’s not crispy. I didn’t see a sign of a vegetable or an egg in it And when I left, I took the remaining entrée but left my rice. my total, including soda and tip came out to just slightly over $18. All in all, I think it was really good. I’ll definitely go back and try another entrée. But in my opinion, of the three Chinese restaurants we have in that area one on each corner, this was the best meal...
Read moreI came across Chinatown Asian Kitchen on Facebook and decided to give it a try since it’s on the West side. It’s located at the end of the strip on Union Hills and 91st Ave, and the restaurant itself is a decent size. The owner, Joanne, is super friendly and clearly passionate about cooking!
I ordered the Singapore Mi, Hot and Sour Soup, Chili Oil Wontons, and a Chinese Tamale (Zongzi). The Singapore Mi was very flavorful. The hot and sour soup wasn’t quite sour or spicy enough for my taste, it leaned a bit sweet. Same with the chili oil wontons, they were tasty but a little too sweet and not spicy enough for me. The Chinese tamale, though, was spot on, just like the ones I’ve had in Hong Kong.
I noticed they also offer Hainanese Chicken Rice, so I placed an order for pick-up a few days later (they require advance notice since it takes time to prepare). I was so excited on pick-up day and arrived right on time. Joanne had my order ready to go.
Once I got home, I couldn’t wait to dig in. The chicken was organic and deboned, the rice was well-seasoned, and the ginger scallion sauce was just right. The portion was a bit small for my son and husband but perfect for me. Honestly, finding solid Hainanese Chicken Rice on the West side was such a pleasant surprise!
They’re planning to offer dim sum soon too, I can’t...
Read moreMy friend discovered this hidden gem, and I’m so glad we checked it out. The restaurant is small but clean, inviting, and easy to navigate.
We came in for dinner and ordered from their authentic menu—nothing disappointed! The walnut shrimp was amazing—crispy, flavorful, and perfectly cooked. We also tried the Bird’s Nest House Noodles, which were excellent. The string beans and beef (not even on the menu, but they kindly made it for us!) were absolutely delicious. The black bean chicken was packed with flavor, and the West Lake soup was comforting and tasty.
The family who runs the place is incredibly friendly and welcoming. The service was great, and we even had a great conversation with them.
We’ll definitely be back. Highly recommend giving this place a try!
