You have to order from a kiosk if you enter the restaurant. There is no interaction with a staff member. The kiosk allowed me to choose my sandwich. I went with the double steakburger with cheese because after all, it is Steak n Shake and they're noted for their steakburgers. The kiosk then prompted me to add anything else I wanted. So I chose a chocolate shake because once again, it's Steak n Shake and shake is in the title. Problem is the shake wouldn't add to my order. I had to go back to the main menu and order it as a separate item. Then the kiosk asked for a name to go with the order which would be called when the order was ready. As I was waiting I heard the staff calling out numbers for the orders. When no one came up to pick up order 119, I assumed it was mine and it was. My double steakburger with cheese was good and the shake was better than most fast food varieties. However, that kiosk ordering system needs some fine tuning because not only does it prevent you from completing your order in a simple, rapid fashion, it asks for a name when it uses a number. This is no reflection on the staff which were fine. This is some corporate person's idea of streamlining the process, appropriate language for reducing staff and payroll, which in their infinite wisdom was not well thought out. Corporate needs to...
Read moreI stopped going to any of the local Steak n Shake locations because to be blunt, the service sucks. My husband and I got a gift card to SnS, so we found ourselves here again. Even though it was a Saturday night, the place wasn't that busy. It took a long time to get our food. Our server was really nice, but he was stretched thin trying to help the other 2 servers. Only 3 servers to cover the entire restaurant and even though it wasn't packed, it was clearly not enough. The kitchen is ridiculously slow cooking the food. It seemed like the drive thru is given higher priority and the kitchen staff cannot hand the load at all. It's not just this location, we experienced the same at other SnS locations. The food is still good, it just takes way too long to get it. I'd rather throw away any future gift cards to this place than go to one again, but I'll probably just use them and go through the drive thru (I will not give any company "free" money by not using a gift card). Seriously, Steak n Shake, quit lowering the menu prices and coming up with gimmicks to get customers and focus on what really needs fixed, the service and...
Read moreThis restaurant needs help. The staff is not very polite and I've had a hard time getting a correct order. I tried to place an order on the phone and asked for a manager and then was put on hold for 18 minutes and nobody ever picked up the phone. I drove out to the restaurant while still on the phone and asked for the manager. She was busy running the drive thru window. When she came up to the counter I showed her my phone that was still active calling the store. She picked up the store phone and said that the phone was broken and then asked me what I wanted to order. I told her I was trying to call in a replacement order from the last time I visited the store and they messed up my order. She then had to walk to the back to check for my name. This store very rarely gets an order correct. Very high turnover of employees and managers. Corporate office needs to fix this store badly!!! I will not be visiting this restaurant anytime in the near future. Please think twice about going to this store on University St. that sits right next to Burger King....
