I couldn't have picked a better day for my first visit. I stood outside on a crisp Fall morning, trucks carrying loads of fresh pumpkins drove by on the nearly empty street out front, and I was greeted by a warm waft of cinnamon from beyond the screen door. Waiting in the small vestibule for your order affords you a glimpse of German curios scattered throughout the store- a quilt of German towns, a colorful folk doll, painted crockery, and just around the corner you can catch glimpses of some of the day's offerings - plump cinnamon rolls, almond butterkuchen, and tangy cheese pretzel rolls with a touch of heat. I eagerly bundled up my parcels and trundled away to share with the haul with my coworkers who were not afforded the brief respite from a Saturday grind. We greedily tucked into the freshly baked bread and it pliably surrendered to mouth or fork in cloudlike softness - the butterkuchen was hearty and sweet without being overbearing, the delicately spiraled cinnamon rolls were generously frosted with fresh icing, and the pretzel rolls were inspirational both on their own and with the promise of many potential sandwiches to be discovered. The ingredients are the same chemical filled, genetically modified, extensively processed animal byproducts as the rest of the area and that leaves it off limits to those who eat clean. However the owner being kind and gracious did give us cold bottled water at no cost for the inconvenience. The person to person interaction was exceptional which gives them 3 stars and saves this place from having a 1 star rating. If you don't care that you're eating yourself to a slower early death marked by some horrible medical terminology to mask the fact that you've been poisoning yourself...then by all means this place as well as all the other places in Peru,...
   Read moreA very unique German bakery right here in downtown Peru! I think it's all authentic but I've never been to Germany and I don't know how to pronounce some of the items đ. A fan favorite is the pretzel roll! Keep in mind this is a fresh bakery so items will not keep long!
