Waffle House — Restaurant in Petal

Service is usually good here but this particular visit it wasn't that great. They were short handed and had a new cook and it took forever to get my food, and it was cold on top of that, and the grits had lumps in it, and it was just a not so great visit. BUT our waitress was amazing and extremely nice and she even offered to remake my food for me but I told her no ( mainly bc it's always freezing in the waffle house and you can stand it long enough to get and eat your food lol.) But she didn't charge us for our food which mine was only missing a bite of waffle and a bite of grits lol my husband ordered a burger and he had no complaints it was hot and fresh and he got his order before I got any of my food, he was done eating before mine was on the table. ALSO the manager left while a huge rush came in (remind you they were short-handed and there was only a waitress and a BRAND NEW COOK in the restaurant) but the manager seen they were struggling and instead of saying what can I do to help you guys she looks at them and says I'll be back in a little bit. Oh I was so upset about that bc the little waitress was doing everything she could possibly do! Maybe that waitress needs a promotion and that manager needs a demotion!!!! But under the circumstances service was good my husband's food was good but my all-star meal not so much this go around. BUT it usually is and I will be back when I get a waffle house craving lol. One kinda bad visit out of the tons of times I've been isn't going to make me give the Waffle House up so hopefully they get some more employees and find a manager that'll step up and help their employees when they are in the situation they were in on this day. I have pretty low standards for Waffle House, but this experience was very disappointing. The food was excellent - service was terrible.

Chantal was our server, and upon entering there were very few other customers (mostly to-go) and WE greeted her - she stared at us blankly and said nothing. The initial part of service was as to be expected - but while we waited we noticed she was spending most of her time gossiping about someone with the only other server. She forgot to put in parts of our order, but luckily the cook hadn't started on ours yet due to to-go. Chantal didn't refill our drinks until we had to yell across the restaurant for her attention (since she was talking very loudly with the other server), despite her looking directly at our nearly empty cups whenever she walked by us. When we did get a refill, the wrong drink was brought. She spent so much time talking with her coworker she forgot about a waffle ordered (after we asked) and had burnt it - had to remake it. At the end, it felt like she wanted to rush us out so she could smoke- which she left out as soon as she dropped her ticket.

However, the food was cooked very well (props to the chef) and the restaurant is very clean and tidy. I hope the service next time is better (or we don't have her), as it's discouraging to be in a nearly empty restaurant and still feel neglected or...

My father is bedridden and on hospice care and I normally come in here and pay almost $10 for two scrambled eggs with cheese, raisin toast and grits and all he can eat is the two scrambled eggs with cheese I ordered just two scrambled eggs with cheese on the side, almost 6 dollars And then I look over there and it’s like an omelette and he just flips it and it’s like a big Patty and I refuse to take it. He scrambles me an egg with cheese and when he gives it to me, it is like a third of the way full in this little cup and it’s normally overflowing with two scrambled eggs with cheese. I will not come back my daddy ate here four days a week for 10 years and I have been coming once a week for two years getting him food and this is two or three times with the same night Cook that has messed it up and he was rude. I asked him to re-cook it and he still let it sit there and was letting him just throw an omelette again and then he chopped it up. I was very unhappy.
