Buckle-up, I wrote a lot to drive home the importance of hygiene in the workplace.
The coffee tasted great, the staff behind the counter were helpful and professional. The store is clean, and has a lot of seating options. I would have rated 5 stars, but after about an hour of sitting outside drinking my mocha, this happened:
A man, approximately in his 60's-70's, dressed in a gray t-shirt and grey cargo shorts, and with his grey hair tied back, sits just outside the front door of the shop on the bench to the left (if you're looking at the road from the front entrance.
I was sitting at one of the first bistro tables to the right of the entrance and I kept getting strong whiffs of cigarette smoke.
Turns out, it's the guy I described above was just sitting on that bench casually smoking...Not 5 feet from the front door. The smoke and smell were so strong that I went inside to sit instead, for "fresh air".
Once inside, I'm seated near the really cool "San Francisco" coffee roaster they have in the store.
I then see the same guy walk inside from his bench, step over the rope at the coffee roaster, and to my disgust, he starts operating the machine and touching some of the beans. I couldn't have guessed this guy even worked here based on his demeanor out front.
But the worst part? He didn't wash his hands.
I've worked in the restaurant industry, and then the healthcare industry for many years. I've participated in plenty of health inspections in both fields, had to obtain my Food Handler certification multiple times.... This situation disgusted me, and this was my first and last time I'll visit here.
If they read this, hopefully the employees learn to take their smoke breaks much further away from the storefront, and seriously make a trip to the sink to lather on that soap and hot water. None of this should...

The people there are friendly and knowledgeable. You have a question: They have the answer……Most importantly to me is that they are Veteran Friendly. You feel welcomed as soon as you walk in the door. The seating there is comfortable. Can sometimes get a bit crowded at times. They move really quick though. Most of all in general……It’s a great place to grab a cup of “JOE” and relax and talk with friends and others. I’m going...
