Urban Deli — Restaurant in Petaluma

Wow. The best Mediterranean food in town and the best I’ve had in awhile. Family owned and operated and it shows. I love when the wife/mother makes my falafel wrap. My first time in they had run out of the meat selection I wanted. I wasn’t upset and I’m still not upset about it because it shows that 1) the meat is fresh, 2) they aren’t wasting a bunch of animal product, and 3) the falafel is delicious. Everything worked out perfectly, all the flavors mixed together in the wrap was exactly what I needed to re-inspire my palate. There’s an extra spice they use that’s very special and I don’t what it is, but it makes all the flavors stand out. My friend treated me to dinner to share how special this place is, so I bought dessert. The father/husband recognized that my friend had brought in a new customer and he snuck a little something extra in the dessert box for my friend. He didn’t boast about it, just a sweet sneaky treat. Wow. I went here with my son recently. I had a falafel salad (I’m gf so no wrap) and my son had the lamb shawarma wrap. We also had chocolate halva, baklava and turkish coffee, which was served from a gorgeous little pot. The food was outstanding! The falafel was so fresh and delicately crispy, strewn throughout a salad perfectly balanced with fresh lettuce, herbs, mint, cucumber and amazing hummus. My son was equally delighted with his shawarma. The desserts were housemade and fabulous. We spoke with the friendly owner Sam (Wassam) and hope to see more of a middle eastern vibe there in the near future - the ambiance is okay, but you can’t tell by walking by how special this place is…check it out everybody!! Was excited to try Urban Deli with a few coworkers, however none of us were quite satisfied with the service nor taste of the food. Took about 30 minutes for three very basic sandwiches. Lots of confusion between the menu, cashier, and employee preparing the food. I was very specific while ordering my sandwich, however still lots of confusion. Sandwich was relatively small, didn't include everything I ordered on it(what the menu stated did not correlate with what the cashier was telling me, nor what they gave me after I ordered.. didn't want to go back and forth about it).
