Table Culture Provision - I give it 5 Lardons, my highest rating!!!
We have dined with TCP several times since they opened up at this location and all experiences have been great, however, this one was spot on in every way.
And it was extra special because we brought my brother-in-law and wife for his birthday, neither of whom had visited before but had heard us raving over the years about how amazing TCP is. Because of this, there were some pretty high expectations from their side of the table and TCP's chefs, servers, and staff fully delivered, with my sister-in-law even proclaiming that this very well may have been the best meal of her life. (It certainly ranked Top 5 all-time for us.)
The food was amazing, the service was top notch (efficient and professional, as well as perfectly friendly) and the ambiance was warm and welcoming.
I highly recommend getting the full menu...and DO add the Parker House Roll! Every time I hear someone at another table ask a server what it is, I want to lean over and tell them to just order it and if they like it, I'll buy it off them.
And as far as the tasting menu, it's fantastic. We have had the pleasure of dining at a lot of Michelin starred restaurants and cannot quite figure out why TCP has not yet received this distinction. Their food and service easily rank at least halfway up our list of actual Michelin star.experiences, and easily beats out the 2 star restaurant up the coast that we have visited several times. However, at the same time they have not overdone it with ridiculous food and perplexing dishes and cutlery. They are very creative while still remaining approachable and fun.
We usually find at least one item on a tasting menu to be a bit off but every single one on this menu is well thought out, well prepared, and absolutely a delight for the eyes, the nose, and the tongue and belly. I wish I could pick a favorite but all were amazing. But I will say that the prosciutto bite was unique (I could easily eat half a dozen of those balls), the scallop may be the best crudo we have ever had, the duck was perfect (what we expect from Liberty Ducks in the hands of Chef Steph and Chef Steven), and the pre-dessert and actual dessert were simply amazing.
Finally, the service was first class. As my regular readers know, I revel in great service and love to give that credit where it is due and Danny and Jessie (both Petaluma Foodies, I believe) not only complimented but complemented the experience perfectly. They are professional without being stuffy and are knowledgeable without being condescending. They give 3 star Michelin service while keeping things fun, light, and enjoyable. And they did not try to run us off as soon as we were finished with our meal. They allowed us to relax and bask in the glory of what we had just experienced, and honestly, that extra 10 minutes or so that we lingered was necessary so as to fully appreciate what we had just experienced.
As an added bonus, their lighting above the tables is perfect for food photos. They are LED orbs that put off enough light to keep the room well lit, but unless you are directly under them, you do not even see that they are on. But slide your dish to the middle of the table and you have excellent overhead lighting so that you don't have to use your phone's flash or ask a companion to light things up with their cell phone's flashlight app.
And for those who saw my question here last week about the corkage fee, we love their wine selection (they even have an amazing non-alcoholic sparkling wine), but the bottle of port we brought from home was so worth it to have with our meal that the corkage fee felt like a bargain!
Although TCP may be one of the pricier places in Petaluma, when compared with other Michelin-esque places, they are actually quite a value. And if you want to taste the same flavors but from a more cost conscious menu, check out their Social Hour.
We cannot wait to visit TCP...
Read moreFrom my experience, fine dining can often be expensive and pretentious, leaving you wondering if every deconstructed, farm-to-table bite is really worth $20. However, I can confidently say that Table Culture Provisions is completely unpretentious—and every mouthful is worth it! The food and ambiance are amazing, but what truly sets this restaurant apart, and what compels me to write this glowing review, is the incredible staff. They make you feel like you’re dining with family, if your family happened to be a team of highly skilled chefs and servers. From the moment you walk in, you’re greeted with a warm smile and lively conversation that never falters. Even as we were the last two guests at 11 PM, we never once felt rushed or out of place; instead, we were treated like valued guests celebrating a special occasion. It’s the little details that make the experience unforgettable. Our server, Victoria, went above and beyond, asking how we’d prefer to be seated, across from each other or side by side, hanging our coats and even following up the next day with an email list full of recommendations for places to visit in Napa as we discussed our plans to visit. Brian, the Wine Director, a big fan of Grateful Dead, was incredibly thoughtful with his recommendations. Rather than pushing the wine pairing, he took the time to ask questions and find the best match for us. And to our surprise, his recommendation wasn’t the most expensive bottle, but an affordable, delicious chardonnay that perfectly complemented our meal. Both Brian and Victoria, along with what I’m sure is an equally outstanding team, exemplify exceptional service through their attentiveness and genuine care. Now, onto the food, which I’m sure everyone cares about! I’ll keep it brief, it was exquisite. We had the seven-course tasting menu, and every single plate was to die for. There aren’t enough words to capture the techniques, flavors, and creativity in each dish, but let’s just say I’m already excited to return for the next seasonal...
Read moreThis is the finest restaurant in Petaluma and one of the best I’ve eaten at anywhere in Sonoma County. It is a tiny place that is a beautiful, elegant jewel box. It feels wonderful in the main room and during pleasant weather their patio is also very appealing.
We had a their prix fixe 7 course meal without the wine paring. The courses were each different, appropriately sized, and brilliantly seasoned. Their sauces are just exceptional. We had halibut, steak tartare, shrimp, squab, etc. Each as an entree sized plate would have made for a legendary meal. By the end of the meal we were happily full but not vastly over fed as is sometimes the case with prix fixe meals.
The wait staff is friendly, helpful, and extremely knowledgeable. Their wines are unusual selections and delicious. The staff all seem to be sommeliers or at least very well informed. The service was smooth and artfully unobtrusive. This is one of the most sophisticated restaurants I’ve seen.
Finally, the price is extremely attractive. It is not inexpensive but it is remarkably affordable given both the level of the cuisine...
